As far as THF goes until you get viper bite, sword or h2h do much better. Shit a rubber band shooting a wet noodle does better then low lv daggers.
Combo will see better SA numbers then fast blade so it looks more pleasing, parse wise who gives a shit.

As for nin, I feel like katanas are fine.

At Dunes levels, H2H thf/mnk is better.

I hit a few 200-300 boost + Sneak attack combo in the dunes when I leveled my thf.

However, as soon as you hit 20, thf/nin with sword mainhand and dagger offhand becomes better because of dual wield.

Also, spam those damn acid bolts! Gonna need to level marksmanship for thf anyway. You'd be surprised how much an acid bolt proc increases damage for the whole party at the low levels, not to mention increases the speed of to building on low level thf.

/MNK and H2H is by far the best sub in the dunes, after that who cares rock either sword or H2H until you get Viper Bite. You’re probably going to be pulling so /NIN with sword main hand until Viper Bite is advisable because H2H when /NIN just isn’t as good.

This thread is great evidence that parsing should be made acceptable. People are curious about damage data. It shouldn’t be against the rules to measure damage to try and find the best dps. H2h and /mnk felt super strong for thf back when I leveled it. I’m sure if sword is better it isn’t by much. Two swords very likely is stronger. So at 20, I’d switch to that. Strongly disagree with a ninja using sword. Retsu is very strong with a good set.

For this reason, at least in the dunes, it might be worth considering using Great Katana on NIN. At level 18, you can stock up on Shuriken from Tenshodo npc's, which should help quite a bit from 20-30ish.

For THF, I feel like gearing and playing it like a RNG with Sneak Attack in the low levels may still be the way to go, despite the RNG nerf. "D" ranked sword, and "E" ranked H2H will likely build tp much slower than "C+/C-" marksmanship/archery, even if you have to move back to an optimal range. There's more ranged accuracy gear available at those levels as well. Since THF doesn't get access to the good low level swords like Bee Spatha +1, and Auriga Xiphos, but does have access to the best low level H2H weapons (Legionare's/Republic Knuckles), /MNK for SA + Boost + Combo while TP'ing almost exclusively from bolts/arrows seems like it would yield the best overall dps in the lower levels.
