The December 2013 Christmas event was insane. You'd talk to an Event Moogle and you'd receive all of the following for an insanely long time:

Mighty Strikes
Hundred Fists
Perfect Dodge
Invincible
Manafont
Regain effect (I want to say it was 20 TP/tic, This was back when TP still went to 100 instead of 1000)
Regen effect (Something insane like 50 or 100 HP/tic)
...and possibly more that I can't remember.

The only way you could be hurt was magic or ranged attacks. I remember soloing my WAR to 37 and MNK to 60+ with this buff really quickly. Eventually, Nasomi had to knock the timer down to 15 minutes because Muffin and Exe (Not Exelyon) were duoing everything endgame with the buffs.

Oddin, did you stay in contact with Exe or Muffin? What was the name of the like 16 year old kid who used to play with us back in the day? Also did you ever stay in touch with Kiritoo? I believe we left our accounts with him (and the 100 WW / 60 subcrafts) . First 2 memories I have are Exe / Muffin / that kid taking us through Dynamis Qufim / Valk / Bubu. Also mug'ing Roc.

Sincerely, Boomcats / my brother Kjeldoran

The only one I would regularly talk with for a while was Muffin. The others were jailed/banned for various reasons and never came back. I haven't spoken with Muffin in years though, sadly. I think he ended up quitting as well and possibly deleting his account as there is a Muffin running around now that I think is a totally different person.

I don't really remember when exactly I first started but there was no sync range and everyone basically leveled in the dunes (at least, in my experience up to 45). BLM burns on crabs at oasis were common, dont think anyone leveled on lizards where they are now but I could be mis-remembering.

Fishing was added a few months after I started and I remember farming moat carps and selling em for 10k a stack to fund my blm spells.

Well if Muffin, Exe, Exelyon, Kiritoo or yourself ever have time to catch up shoot me a PM. I'd love to catch up with ya'll, just got back into FFXI while I have some free time for the next month or two, good to shoot the shit (not on Nasomi).

I started close to 2 years ago .. so I've been here longer than most new people but not as long as some of the original players.

I enjoyed the chocobo circuit that was located in each main city and allowed cheap fast transportation to each city!

Oh boy, one of these...

• Nasboat was great & convenient
• Page grinds were lame but when your party pool was 20 people online, before the dunes and half the other areas were refactored, books and page grinds on lizards were all there was. First in the dunes, then in CT. Eventually we had alliances, then nas cracked down on speedhacking. Exe said "what is nas gonna do, ban me?" Shortly there-after, Exe was no more.
• Calloway had a fight with his father and got kicked out of the house, so he was homeless playing at starbucks all day.
• Totien's "affair" in game, when he played with his wife, and his wife got angry then deleted his character. This led to the "keep personal things out of game" rule.
• Some "girl" performing "favors" for plvl, gil, gear, etc. Then when she realized she couldn't turn it off cried to nas about harrassment. This lead to the "don't reveal your gender" rule. It happened twice more that I know of.
• Just got going in qufim when group started dyna. Dyna wasn't "see how far you could make it". It was "see how far you could make it before server crash." exp pt's and dyna did not mix.
• 25 step 8-12 hour install process meant you had to prove yourself worthy to play ffxi even before you got in game.
• Litterally constant issues with missions, quests, npc's, etc.
• No fishing = no black ink. Nebi's were added for 8k a pop on nasboat, which pretty much set a fixed price on shihei. And it was super expensive.
• Summer and Winter fun runs to cloister of flames and cloister of frost as level 1's were a blast.
• Getting over 50 people and having insufferable lag.
• Tweeting nas frantically when the server went down when in exp pt, hoping it came back up before everyone lost interest.
• The breaking of grindhouse, then moghouse, it was just an outlet for trolls.

So many things have gotten so much better, leveling today is infinitely easier than leveling 4 years ago when stability issues plagued the servers. When bugs were around every corner or you would zone under the world 25% of the time. OR OR OR that zone bug crash, where every time someone zoned, 10% chance of zone crash. That was nas's white whale for over a year. Many nm's and hnm's fell victim to those crashes. Regional clusters where we had 5 zone servers instead of 270, so only a cluster of zones would go down at a time.

The horrible website nas started with...
http://web.archive.org/web/201401040631 ... asomi.com/
http://web.archive.org/web/201503210011 ... mi.com:80/

Don't be fooled by the second link, all those pages were under construction. While it may still look like the second page, it's infinitely more feature rich than it was before.

SNEAKY NAS!!! Before everyone knew he was Pepsi/Coke/Sprite hahhahaha In hindsight it even sounds like him!

Aye, fun times. Pretty much, a whole different experience, everything was new, you never knew what to expect, from complete wipes to competition, events, it was great. Sure, some stuff was hard to come by, but it's what made climbing the peak even more rewarding. You never knew what to expect at any given moment, asking the few high-level crafters for favors. Overall, it was very fun and great; even if you did crash the server -- Incidentally that is.
