Okay, I'm gonna rant a little. The new sync system is bad. real bad. It seems like every time I put a party together by the time we all get together the server population has gone up past what we can sync to. then we are screwed to either drop people or just disband altogether. Its super frustrating. Are there any plans on updating it or revamping it?

Yup, this was always going to be an issue with a constantly changing sync. It would be fine if you could still sync but if you're outside the current level range you will receive a exp penalty which would increase the more over the sync range you are. This would also allow more to grp if there wasn't many seeking.

3 things.

1. The sync system has been in place for months. The recent update -widened- the level restriction.
2. Yes, even though it's been in place for months, it was bugged half the time such that you could sync 40 levels anyway.
3. People abused a bug that let them sync even beyond the max sync range of 40.

2 and 3 allowed people to party in the dunes when they otherwise wouldn't have been able to, which is exactly what the system was introduced for to prevent.

The reason for the new sync system was that it was becoming increasingly difficult for newbies to party in zones like the dunes as pop increased. I went to the dunes to check out a dispute (people were complaining in nas chat about people taking too many mobs...) and there were four parties in the lv 12 section that supports maybe two, and three parties in the lv 14 section that supports maybe two. And good luck if you out leveled either of those, because the 16 section had two parties and that supports just one party.

This wouldn't be a big deal if they were all newbies. But they weren't. There were some new people but there were mostly people who were just sticking around the dunes too long, riding the tide of newbies as sync targets, who then went on to do the same thing because, heck, it's what they learned to do. This system forces those people to move on a little bit earlier, it frees up the new players to engage with each other a bit more, with less competition. And this isn't even getting into the benefit of meeting players closer to your level...

If you plan on hitting 37 in the dunes so that you don't have to worry about your sub, you're what this sync system is trying to prevent.

Remember too, that half the time, pop is decreasing, and half the time pop is increasing. We will never hear the stories of people who formed parties that otherwise wouldn't have been able to sync together due to a pop decrease because they don't even notice it happen. Don't forget the massive benefit to EU or low pop time players, either. They get to sync 30, 40 levels due to there being much fewer players to play with.

Levelsync restrictions is the most asinine thing to have on a private server with limited population. It is the single reason why I only had blm leveled for the longest time. Even then, I simply cured merit pts on my whm to 75 (which was already 52 before the restrictions were implemented) because it was easier and faster to take the huge xp hit than try to heck around with this sync shit. This is the same story with my brd.

The population isn't as limited as you think. That's the problem. With a 40 sync cap and 600 people online, there were nearly 100 in the dunes alone with 9 parties competing for 3 camps because no one wanted to move either to a higher level zone or to other mobs in the same zone. And it wasn't 100 newbies. Lots of newbies had to sit out because 'high' level people take one newbie at a time to use as a sync target and then move on to the next.

The best solution would be to make more camps competitive so that newbies can experience more than just lizards in the dunes, but this is a good stop-gap in the mean time.

While a semi-valid criticism, I still think it would be net-positive as a whole for the server to have no level sync restrictions.

If they hit 75 in the dunes, they're gimped. Who really loses? Lol

I agree though, with ~350-400 unique players on at peak times and rising, the Dunes are going to be cramped without some sort of restriction.

I can see the frustration of spending a bunch of time getting a party started only for it to fail because the sync range changed on you though.

Where someone hits 75 is irrelevant. Sucky players are going to suck at their job regardless of where or how they level.

I've been around long enough for both before and after the all the changes and I still believe it's for the worse, it is atleast 5x harder than ever to put together a party anywhere than it was when I joined, it's made me want to exp less and less and less, and I love exping but it's like why do I even bother if A the sync changes and the party comp no longer works or B I seek, get a party and because of the current restrictions we never get to start hence wasting HOURS of my time. Exp has almost become inconvenient, it's fine if your between 10-35 but it becomes increasingly difficult as you level beyond that to the point where it's gotten a bit of a pain. We talk about how people were hitting 75 in the dunes or w/e before the changes, back when that was happening the population was ALOT lower and it wasn't really a conscious choice to hit 75 in the dunes, it just kind of happened because that's where people were partying. I gave it a long time before I came to believe that the sync change was for the worse, I've seen many people I've known walk away from the server because of it as well, I think it's a bad change that hurts the community more than it helps.
