I, like a of people recently, are very new to the server. With it hitting the 1,000 online players milestone recently, I'm curious to hear from those who have been here since the beginning (or at least for longer than the majority). How has the server evolved? What was it like at launch? What were some memorable events that only you guys will remember? Anything else you like to share, please feel free.

Nasomi teleporting around as Dynamis Lord and casting Doom or Meteor on players during parties. We didn't get raises or the exp back either. :lol:

Also, Nasboat, forever in our hearts. Damn the Galka that sunk it!

Those portals you may have noticed by the Port Windy, Port Bastok, and North Sandy MHs used to warp you to the Phaneut Channel ferry, which had some basic NPCs and three portals between the starting cities. Used to be the bazaar hub before it was replaced by chocobo circuit.

I never understand people like you. The unique IPs hit 780 yesterday during that peak.

What I remember for the first few years of playing was...

  • Single zone crashes = the whole Nasomi Server crash = that you had to log out for the night till Nas woke up and restarted.
  • Using twitter to msg Nasomi (before IRC) if the server needed to be restarted
  • People did their research before asking a question about something not working correctly. They would mentioned the site they looked up (WIKIs with history of 2008/2009 or other "era like" sites such as somepage or Alla) and what they had done before to try the "thing" that wasn't working.
  • Didn't get talked down to by someone when asking a question, and even the trolls would own up to the trolling (after some time, cuz trolls.)
  • People all worked together to have fun and help gear/finish missions
  • Having a good time with friends and meeting new people that would become friends.
  • You didn't have to have a specific job for a specific camp (with very few exceptions MB/Range parties) to get an invite to party
  • BST pets & Astral Flow crashing the server
  • You wouldn't be asked to leave a party if you are a warrior with a sword/shield and not a GAxe (has happened to me this year on my alt).
  • LS chat "after dark" edition conversations about porn, boobs and other stuff that was in no way appropriate, but Nas was not awake to stop it.
  • Lot less drama at endgame because it was so small of a community that few LS did endgame content.
  • Hearing the story that ToAU wasn't going to be added but a original player asked Nas if he would enable it even with the Project not having coded or programmed of the expansion
  • A lot of content wasn't coded correctly and it caused some issues
  • Having Merit points wiped and having to redo them
  • Gaining blue spells only to have Blue end up broken (code issue with the Project). Then when it was fixed re-learning all the spells.
  • Conversations about Tim Hortons vs Dunkin Donuts
  • Less hacking and exploited abuses that caused QoL features to be removed. Tho some folks did POS hack and got caught and ended up having to re-level from 1 - 75 or not able to come back online.

Probably a lot more to add, but this was what came to my mind at the moment.

Oh! Night sharing 10-hour Epic Sax Guy and Mr. Trololo was after the 2 year mark, but still awesome.

  • empty zones - rubbing your eyes when you saw a pc to make sure they were real then immediately /wave at them and usually chat would ensue
  • taking full advantage of empty nm camps like leaping lizzy
  • logging in and being underwater in port windurst
  • everyone taking advantage of zone crashes to exploit vendoring items
  • Nas taking everyone's gil to undo the exploiting.
  • getting an Aketon for being on the server for a year (missions weren't fully coded yet)
