http://nasomi.com/wiki/index.php?title=New:RulesI'm aware this rule for some reason isn't enforced.
So Nasomi is about the classic authentic pre-ToAU experience. Back when in order to dual box, you had to pay for 2 copies of the game and each expansion and 2 sub fees, and this was back in 2004ish when most people didn't have 2 PCs. You didn't see much dual boxing. On Nasomi, it takes 5 seconds and 0$ to start your dual box.
Now on Nasomi, nobody cares if you dual box crafts, or have someone sitting on a mining point while you do things.
What I do find an issue with is at least partially covered by server rules, but it's fuzzy and I think it needs to be more fleshed out in the rules and expanded.
It is not fair for someone to dual-quad box HELM points, and it is bannable on Nasomi. This is great. The logic behind this is that
it diminishes the experience of others and gives an unfair advantage with minimal work. It hurts the other players around you.I think it should be added to the rules that Dual-boxing shouldn't be allowed to gain an advantage in anything that involves any bit of competitiveness. Some examples include:
NM hunting - Dual boxing 2 characters on an NM like Lizzy or Spiny Spipi increases your cover by over double. One person being able to see two completely different spots of an NM's spawn area and the ability for both to patrol 2 large spots gives an unfair advantage over the solo player hunting the NM, it's similar to a teleport hack in effectiveness. One player should be able to do or cover what one player is designed to do, that's classic FFXI and in this state it's unfair. It cannot be argued that using 2 keyboards or alt tabbing does NOT give you an advantage, This is untrue.
This diminishes the experience of others and gives an unfair advantage with minimal work. It hurts the other players around you.HNM hunting - Same as above, but the stakes are even higher. Nobody wants to get outclaimed on a competitive pop by a guywho's main character is so far from the HNM that they can't even see it. That's silly and nobody can agree that's fair.
It diminishes the experience of others and gives an unfair advantage with minimal work. It hurts the other players around you.Farming - Farming is a lot of players' version of NM hunting. If you have a spot where 5 mobs spawn, and another person farming, you in theory have a 50% chance to get a claim. If someone's dual boxing, you only have a 33% chance to get a claim even though there's only 2 of you. Not only that, I've seen multiple times when someone brings in a low level alt character just to get more claims and hold them while they kill another one, so not only are you only getting 33% of claims when you deserve 50%, since 1 competitor is technically holding a mob while his dual box kills another, they're taking twice as long to kill. This could in a way be considered holding a mob, which I believe is only okay to manipulate HNM spawns(Not sure on that.)
This diminishes the experience of others and gives an unfair advantage with minimal work. It hurts the other players around you.A game is created and balanced with a certain set of rules in mind, and dual boxing skews all those rules and brings in a bunch of issues that are unintended which is why you cannot log into 2 characters at once without taking advantage of loopholes.
If dual boxing is okay because you 'put in the time to level 2 characters,' why isn't 6-boxing okay? You put in the time to level 6 characters.
Let's take poker for example. Is it fair to team up with another player and share cards? Yeah, you both put in the money, together twice as much. But now you can manipulate raises to bully other players out. Now you can count cards much easier. I have an ace and a 2. An ace shows up on the flop. Looking decent. But your second guy you're coordinating with has an Ace and a King. All of a sudden you have an advantage you shouldn't have.
I'm well aware this post will be attacked relentlessly, but that's because dual boxing is so common that people don't want their advantage ripped away.
Just because everyone does something doesn't mean it's healthy or okay for the game.tldr; I wold like to see the rules rewritten. I wanna either see the current rule:
• Controlling two characters at once through any means at all is prohibited.
or
• Controlling two characters at once is allowed. You may control multiple characters to help your odds in claiming NMs and mobs in general.
