I absolutely understand what has happened here. I know why you did it. What I don't understand is how you think this is fair at all. For starters, you don't get to dictate what prices are or what gil is worth. That's up to the playerbase to determine. So you saying my gil is now worth 4x as much is a load of crap. That's up to the player to determine what item is worth what price and is always subject to change. Just because you take a billion gil out of the system doesn't mean people aren't going to want the same amount of gil for certain items.

You say my items would never have sold if the money wasn't there. Fine, however they did sell and now I've not only lost the gil but I've lost the items. The buyers are now better off than I am because they have tangible items and I have nothing. Not only that but before any of this crap started happening, I was up to 23~24M before I started selling my higher gil items. Now I'm down to 12M~. So not only did I lose all the gil I made in the past few months, I lost half the gil I had earned before the exploiters ever came around. Where's the balance there?

I have been slowly building my fortune for 2 years and then it gets ripped out from under me. Why was this allowed to happen? I know this matter has been reported many times in the past, including by myself, and you even tried to fix it on more than one occasion. Why was this not monitored more carefully? Why are we even here at this point, Nasomi? You and I both know you watch this stuff. You keep track of gil coming into the system and you never stopped to question it? It boggles my mind that this was allowed to happen. We've been through this before on this server.

Right, I don't dictate prices or the worth of gil on the server. The players do. However, with a billion gil removed, player will start to realize that if they do want their things to sell, they're going to have to adjust prices. I didn't say they'd never have sold, I said htey wouldn't have sold for waht htey sold for. The economy would have been dramatically different.

I never said it was fair. I said this was the best solution I was able to come up with. I had been monitoring gil loosely, not sure where it was coming from, but completely unaware that it was being exploited from npc's. Once I learned about them, I worked hard on plugging the holes. Doesn't make sense to adjust things if gil is going to keep pouring into the economy, so nothing was done but watch in frustration. And it was frustrating, because I had no idea where it was coming from When I would fine one, another would appear. And it would continue. I only know what the players report, and while some report issues like this, most do not.

When the last of the holes got plugged about a month ago, and it was time to figure out how to fix the damage that had been done. The decision wasn't made lightly, by any means. There was no solution that worked well across the board, but the money needed to come out. Do I leave you with yours and take everyone elses? How does one pick and choose? There was no way.

But the value of 12m has changed, regardless of what the players say, because it's the percent of the whole. Before, 12m was a lot, but completely obtainable. Now, it's more than anyone else has. The percent of all the gil that you have has not changed, and that's what will end up dictating the value of the gil.

I'm not here to argue economics with you. You can say 12M is a lot but getting 24M before the fact was a lot harder and worth a hell of a lot more than that 12M is now. I'm just here to say that this decision has cost myself a year's worth of work on top of another ~12M that I had before any of this was happening. I have nothing to show for all that work I put forth in helping this community to better itself. The gil is gone. The items are gone. I wasted a lot of time for nothing and I came here to say that I'm not going to do it again. That's all I wanted to say. You can have your clinical explanation of how you arrived at this decision, it's not going to change the fact that I got screwed big time.

And before anyone gets the wrong idea, I realize others have lost out on this as well but I can't argue for them because I don't know what they've lost. I don't know their circumstance. I only know what I lost and how this affected me. I'm sure others are in a similar boat, even if it is on a smaller scale.

I get ya

I only found this server and started playing about a month ago, what I lost is peanuts compared to what you lost.

From my perspective, I have two characters in the upper 40s, so I was looking ahead trying to figure out how to buy a few elemental staves and a vermy, with a pipe dream of obtaining an iridal staff.

I had managed to farm up close to 200k by mostly selling fire crystals/hermit rings/synthed stacks of copper ingots

then I see a guy trying desperately to get his kclub offering 200k for a moon orb

sounds great to me, I buy a couple and now I'm sitting on around 600k - that vermy + a handful of staves are now in reach

...and now over 400k of that gil is gone, and i'm kicking myself for not pre-buying things

I'm 100% certain that vermy's will not drop to < 50k (when they were selling for < 200k prior), I'm 100% certain that iridal staves will not drop to < 500k (when they were selling for < 2mil prior)

my purchasing power took a hit, it sucks

and it's peanuts compared to what you lost

If I had been playing on this server for multiple years instead of a single month, and I was treated this way, I'd probably bail too. Especially with so much fuss about not breaking the rules in moghouse, yet the players responsible for the current situation apparently are the only ones who got away from this event cleanly since they're the ones that didn't have to sell any items or spend any of their time to get their illegitimate gil.

tl;dr - I get ya, this situation sucks for everyone except the cheaters, and it especially sucks for any entrenched legitimate players

He'll be back. He's mull over it, realize that he's still one of the richest players in the game, and he'll realize that quitting would be more of a waste of all his efforts than the number next to his gil going down (but still being in the millions).

Oddin -

I just wanted to add my 2gil.

In the real world, a bank can 'Bail-in' your money, inflate the economy, crash a currency.. etc.

To me, as frustrating as this event is (and it is to most everyone), it can teach a valuable lesson past the game - it can replicate a real world event (relatively). This can teach you.

If this even happened in the real world next month, wouldn't you be glad to have seen what people naturally did in this situation?

Your choice is your own, and it's very understandable. Just thought i'd shine a different light on it :)

I was looking forward to playing with you again, but I also understand where you're coming from. You always did answer all the new people's questions too. Hope you change your mind, but good luck to you.

My dear Oddin. ;-;

I'm going to miss you if this is, indeed, permanent, and I'll welcome you back if you ever change your mind - I promise I won't hold my breath though, because I 100% respect your decision, whatever it is/may be. <3

Oddin, we've been through so much over such a long time together, that I hate to see you go. You and I were the last remaining members of our original group. I remember all of us getting a group together to get to sea, slugging it out and finding out how the missions were different from retail since not many had tried before us. I remember us getting our rajas rings together and going to limbus for the first time. Then we would farm dynamis until our fingers bled to get that Spharai for you, the first relic on the server that didn't require direct intervention by Nasomi. That was a great day for you, but even more so was the pride that we felt by knowing that we were able to help someone who was such a great help to the entire community.

In the end, I hope you find happiness in whatever you decide to do, and I hope even more so that maybe one day you will change your mind and return to the server. Whatever you decide, know that you have friends here who think highly of you and miss you greatly. I treasure my memories of our adventures together, which are worth more to me than any pile of gil ever could. Farewell, Oddin, you will not be forgotten!

[ Cajole / Koverlet ]

P.s. I'll happily donate to a Keep Oddin fund! Track me down in game!

My only regret on this server, was never finishing your relic with the group. That never sat right with me when Arn and Kal dropped out and you were left high and dry. I am happy you did get yours done but it should have been with us. I'm so sorry it happened the way it did.
