The primary issue is the host not sending validation emails for the forums. That is top priority.

Hexchat doesn't nag like mirc does.

Why not just make a Discord channel? Can also add Chatango or something similar to the homepage or forum for support.

This. A Discord is stupidly easy to setup.

Discord is persistant, but also allows voice and pictures.

Other games I've played which have discord servers have devolved into people spamming racist memes very quickly.

It's not a bad idea, but it could be without a tight lid kept on it.

Pretty sure you can stop people from posting images in the channel settings on discord.
