The real problem is the survivability of the tank, if you find Ninja can successfully tank the level 40 ones without breath RNG then I'd say that's where the line is. Not having access to Utsusemi: Ni and Refresh on the 30 ones + the breath damage in relation to max hp - I'd say those just straight up have to be kited. Even if you live the damage output is just too high to sustain mp for the full duration of the fight (unless you kite it around halfway through the fight to rest... which we did when we kill a 30 one by tanking it). But once the tank can survive you can make a lot of comps work.

I'd be curious to try NIN/DRK/THF/RDM/BLM/WHM. SATA WS combos do a crapload of damage and you could probably provoke with the DRK each time you are ready for another SATA skillchain MB. This would open up the ability for everyone to go pretty all out on DPS.

Sadly, the RDM and NIN I know don't have Utsusemi: Ni or Refresh yet, for maybe apparent reason. lol

Well we're done waiting for BCNMs to come back at this point - We have people in our linkshell that need Refresh and Utsusemi: Ni and have already been waiting weeks at this point for us to be able to do BCNMs and get them ourselves. We're just gonna tank the OWNMs this weekend and throw in 1 or 2 points in the fight where we Gravity and just run the mob around while we rest to full hp/mp. It's super stupid but whatever, it's already worked for us in the past.

I tried killing the lv.20 OWNM in Buburimu Peninsula with x5 SMN/whm, and x1 THF/nin. I realized going in with Black Mages would not be too wise as we had no gravity at that level, and would most likely be picked off one by one. I felt the best strategy would just be to avoid having it come into close proximity with party members, period.

We achieved this by having the Thief place initial hate onto the wyvern with Sneak Attack + Mercy Stroke, and kite it around the nearby stone formations. The Thief was generally safe as long as they kept running, as the wyvern would stop every now and then to cast a spell. The Thief used that to his advantage to gain a nice buffer distance from the wyvern. While a Thief is not absolutely necessary in this instance, we did it to make sure that Summoners wouldn't continuously get hate when re-summoning pets or casting within 25 yalms of the beast. If you don't use a Thief to get initial hate, you had better know what you're doing =<.

While that is going on, one of the SMN's used Fenrir as often as needed (every 3-ish minutes) to keep Lunar Cry applied for that awesome evasion/accuracy down effect. However, all Summoners were using Carbuncle (w/ buncle mitts equipped) to auto-attack nonstop. Needless to say, sometimes carbuncle wouldn't live very long, so we would just stand near and resummon as soon as we could. Blood pact abilities with Carbuncle were not required at such a low level cap, and resulted in a shortage of MP on some members. The Summoners also had the ability to cure themselves slightly with /whm or /rdm support jobs, and even Healing Ruby (which was nice to take care of that occasional Diaga damage).

I imagine that most OWNM can be taken out in a similar fashion. Keep in mind that if casters don't use some kind of MP refresh drink, the battle may become problematic for those that do not have a sufficient MP pool (especially at a lower level cap).

Interesting that the carbys were effective. Whenever I've tried to go SMN on an ownm, regardless of the level, a melee attack from the dragon instantly kills the avatar. We had some success using Leviathan and Tail Whipping a level 60 OWNM to keep gravity applied as we had no RDM. 2x SMN using Levi can pretty much keep an OWNM grav'd indefinitely if the Tail Whips are staggered a bit, and it's a nice 2-400 dmg every minute.

Last i checked i saw 11 NI's and 7 refreshes in stock. Defo not a shortage. Also easy as pie to kill and doesnt take any seals.

To be fair we're really just all asking for A, which I don't think is unreasonable to start getting a little frustrated at after an entire month. Once that happens we can just go back to pretending OWNMs don't exist and be happy.

To be fair, while there isn't an actual shortage, the price did get jacked up ~200% so they're now (more) out of reach for new people without spending weeks farming. Some people are okay with that as they had to farm for weeks on retail, others might not be because their income came from bcnm drops on retail.

There has been two groups killing them. Or at least I assume it's only two because I've been running with my group every day, but the last two days when we went to go do our rounds, the NMs have been dead.

My group hadn't been selling our drops, we've been farming to actually use the scrolls, but I guess this other group is selling them so hopefully people can actually get them now at least. We still need one more refresh scroll and two Utsu scrolls but if the price comes down reasonably now that there is a supply we might just buy them.
