For anyone who is tired of having your ears blasted by the title screen music that ignores in-game sound settings:

Go to:
NasomiXI\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\sound9\win\music\data\

Rename this file:
music058.bgw (example: music058_.bgw)

I think you can also adjust the volume from the mini config menu when you're at the title screen. Can also change which song plays (I picked wotg :p).
