It seems that I'm already running into problems lol, I did a fresh install and followed all of the directions perfectly. That never worked so I totally uninstalled everything and deleted every file that had to do with FFXI, then I did another totally fresh install and downloaded Ashita2 and it's still not working. I was assuming it had something to do with either the files or my router but any help would be appreciated.

1. Downloaded Torrent
2. Downloaded Ashita
3. Installed PlayOnline
4. Installed the game and all expansions
5. Copied the Update Files
6. Updated PlayOnline
7. Made the POL ID ABCD1234
8. Checked and Repaired all files
9. Copied the Data file into the FF11 file
10. Installed the Visual C++ runtimes that I didn't have and didn't say 'Repair'
11. Opened Ashita and logged in with my profile
12. Made a Character
13. Got the Error

I am assuming you are 64 Bit, but the first thing I am seeing is step 3.

64-bit Windows users launch 64bit POL, then launch FFXISETUP.exe and install everything *******EXCEPT Playonline*****

Also did you Check Files for ff11, you have to have had changed the drop down.

Lastly, and I think this is the real issue. Install all 4 of the visual C++ runtimes, even if it says you already have it, just do it anyway. I had something similar when setting it up and when I did all 4 it worked.

I guess I didnt make it super clear but I launched 64bit POL and didnt install Playonline through the setup, probably coulda made that clearer but still and yes I did change the dropdown. And I don't really see how installing every Visual C++ Runtime would help but it's worth a shot at this point

Edit: Well it didn't work  But Looking through some of the old fourms, people have said that just waiting it out or messing with port forwarding works so I'll probably mess with that for a little bit but thank you for the help anyway

So a bit of an update, I haven't gotten it working yet but I've gotten Ashita V3. and tried on a couple of different servers to the same error so I'm assuming it's my internet somehow, but whenever it get's stuck the Ashita client constantly says "Sending Key...." before it times out. I don't know if that helps but if that narrows it down then I could probably figure it out easier. If it helps, I'm on Windows 7

Can you confirm that ffxi is updated? In POL check files' drop down menu it should say a version number. If it says "version unknown" that is perhaps the problem. To fix, follow these steps carefully http://nasomi.com/wiki/doku.php?id=conf ... the_update

It could also be a Direct Play issue but I think that is limited to Win 8/10...

Yes it's the most current version, or at least it was (im doing another fresh install) and DirectPlay is only win 8 and 10 from what I've seen

Edit: and I got the error again lmao this is so damn frustrating it's not even funny anymore

Edit 2: My real question is why does the Ashita client keep saying "Sending Key.." Cause I have a feeling that has something to do with the ports maybe. I don't know at this point lol. And when it's loading it says "Client Recv Failed: 10054" Don't know if that ties into it but still

Try going into where you installed playonline/ffxi and go into the Playonline viewer folder and copy the data folder into the the Final Fantasy XI folder.
