Has anybody tinkered with running the game on Mac OS via Wine or the like? I've read online people have run it on retail, just wondering if there would be any complications with this version.

I run FFXI via windows 8 on VM Ware Fusion. My computer is a 2014 15' Macbook retina. No noticable issues other then a little lag and a lot of lag if I dual box.

I've heard of people using Wine or the built in Virtual PC tool on Macs to run windows.
As long as you do the steps during the install, you should be fine.

I will update with my thoughts, and pictures once I have finished all the installing process!

Can you install windows natively on macs now? I've always liked the look of MacBook Air.

Were you able to install on OS X? I still encounter errors when I try to play on my mac. Anyone have suggestions? When I use the Launcher, the cmd window opens then disappears. Using Ashita I get a pol.exe - application error (0xc000007b).

i've played around with wine for FF11 but didn't/don't have much free time so never got it running. Installs seemed to go fine and even got it started to load but never working. Think there was an issue with getting all the drivers loaded/loaded in right order. But that was like 3 months ago or more now so I don't really remember.

I've been running Nasomi on Windows 7 through Boot Camp on my 2012 MacBook Pro. I tried VM Ware Fusion like Aperture suggested, but it was running too laggy for me. I never dove into messing with the Wine method, mainly because Boot Camp worked so flawlessly for me.
