I joined in early January and loved this server. I loved the community and this era and Nasomi has it both. (Shouted for a raise and a stranger walked 15min just to give one). I've been posting this link to Youtube videos, Reddit threads, Facebook and anywhere I think we could find more players.

The posts on Facebook are usually in the comments of other sponsored ads and I'm wondering if I should not post it on FFXI ads? It's basically free-ride advertising to people I know (and FB algorithm knows) that would most likely try the server. But I am not sure what SE thinks. Doesn't seem like their NA marketing team really responds to their viewers or check the comments anyway.

Maybe you shouldn't post it on FFXI ads.

Posting on FFXI ads could draw unwanted attention.

It's fine to draw attention to Nasomi. But doing it on commercial ads for FFXI isn't a good idea.

Well what could happen? Has there been issues where private servers were shut down?

I figure the reward right now is pretty great (free advertising!) if the risk is minimal.

I guess the concern would be that we get too big for our britches and SE could justify action baised on the fact that the server is "taking customers (money)" from them.

It's not about being too big. It's about directly advertising on their advertisements. It's OK to post about the server, but there's no need to post about the server on an ad about retail FFXI.

The risk is not minimal, the more word gets out the closer we get to being shut down.

Spamming about this server all over is just shortsighted and may ruin it for everyone, tbh.

Stop being worried about being shut down. Not posting on ads for FFXI is just a way of respecting people who want to play retail.
