Hi all, I just finished installing ffxi and when I'm in-game the camera keeps panning above my character, giving me a sort of "bird's eye view" of him. I can use the arrow keys or "i,j,k,l" keys to move the camera so it's more at my character's eye level but when I release the key it automatically pans back up to bird's eye view.

I hope that makes sense. Anyhow, I'm hoping there's an easy answer to why this happens and how I can stop it.

Thank you in advance,

Devin

Try going into the config for the Mouse/Cam and switching the 'Screen Edge Panning' to Off.

It was the first thing I did because I throw my mouse out of the game screen a lot :P

No problem.

If you want, we can be newbies together and explore. :3

Sooo...I actually can't find where to change that setting. When I go to the config menu once I've booted up the game I only get options for changing the music or aspect ratio. When I go into NasomiXI Config I don't see an option for mouse/cam etc.

I should say that I'm pretty much computer illiterate. The only PC game I've ever played was FFXI around 2005-2008 or so.

As for your offer to play together. I'd love to but it's highly likely that I wont really get to play too much and when I do it's not often for long periods of time. I just discovered that it was possible to play old school FFXI and I thought I'd give it another whirl because it's still considered one of the best games I've ever played (Dark Souls would be the other one...)

It's an option in-game. And it isn't a real problem unless we're in different starting area's, I mean that's what changing jobs is for :P. Tho on the other hand I'm really not that leveled anyway so a new char somewhere else wouldn't change much on my end.
I started in Bastok btw.

Hey Kaichi, thanks for trying to help. I'm still having the issue but I'll see if getting a full sized keyboard fixes it. I can't seem to log back in at the moment so I'll try again later.

I have a similar issue with the game thinking my keys are sticking, though it's usually movement. I have to click on something that isn't the game, like the desktop or firefox, then go back to the game.

Unfortunately clicking outside of the game doesn't solve my issue. Also, if I make sure that the mouse cursor is centered in the game I still have the issue with the camera panning up and over my character so changing the 'screen edge panning' option doesn't help :(
