Hey guys. Just did a fresh install of nasomi-brand FFXI and cant help but notice that upon entering the character select screen, the game is really laggy, even when reducing the graphics settings in FFXIConfig, and even though I've seen reports on other sites about earlier models running at full settings with no issue. Anyone out there with a similar setup that can recommend a config? I just want really stable frame rate.

Had this issue a long time on my Dell. I found that filling in all the resolution areas except Startup(instead of the -1, -1) cleared up almost all lag in processing and jumps that I'd had.

Window, Background, and Menu: Set to your resolution(Background set to higher can make the game much nicer looking but lets stick to what I've seen work).
Startup: -1, -1

I went from ~ 10-22fps to 24-32fps.

in my experience ffxi doesnt run very well with intel hd gfx due to intels terrible dx8 driver support. on my laptop with similar specs to the surface pro 3, core i5 4th gen with intel hd 4600, i managed to get it running with constant 30 fps with a bacground resolution of 1024×576 the lowest 16:9 resolution! regular resolution i just had at 1280x720 as thats just menus anyway. looked pretty awful but at least it was smooth! The game either has to be locked at 30 fps or 60 fps otherwise it's really laggy.

For some odd reason, when I set it to my actual desktop resolution, the window for FFXI is much bigger than the actual resolution of my screen.

How do I go about locking the framerate? I could only find windower as a means, and windower I believe is banned on this server.

I think someone at some point said something about /fps 1 or something similar to that in game.

yeah the game is locked at 30 fps by default. what i meant was if your computer cant handle the game at 30 fps and its bouncing from like 15-30 fps it feels laggy and jerks a lot. so by putting the game at that low resolution of 1024x576 as i said above on my crummy laptop i managed to get the game to stay at a solid 30 fps. /fps 1 will make the game lock at 60 fps which is great but if your pc can only handle 30 or even 45 the game will feel laggier on the 60 fps setting unless it stays on a constant 60 fps. /fps 2 wll put the game back at 30.
