when I search my pc for legacy components I get basically the same results and when I search direct play, a bunch of online pages

Cause: DirectPlay is not enabled.
Fix: Although DirectPlay is enabled by the installer and by default on Windows 7, something may have gone wrong. To enable DirectPlay, press WindowsKey+X at the same time, then select Programs and Features. In the top left, there is a button that says Turn Windows features on or off. Find Legacy Components in the window that shows up and make sure the checkbox next to DirectPlay is enabled.

hey I found the legacy components and directplay and it was already enabled, took a few extra clicks to find it though, there was no "programs and feature" button when I pressed the windowkey+X, had to click "apps and features" then found the "programs and features" on the right side of the screen at about the middle of the screen

Cause: If you're on a 32 bit system, the registry file is buggy in the v17 of the installer
I am running 64bit windows 10

Cause: DirectPlay is not enabled.
directplay is enabled

Cause: The registry entries used for detecting where the game is installed were deleted by another program such as CCleaner
I have not ran any cleaning programs on my pc and I am currently in game so the files are there

Cause: The resolution or window type you're launching isn't supported by your graphics card
I have an nvidia gtx 1050 and running in 1600x900, that resolution is supported by the game and my card, I have played the window setting and am currently in full screen I think but have tried windowed and borderless windowed and have the same results but as I said it doesn't happen every time

Cause: The game is not installed.
as I stated earlier, I am in game now so it is installed

Cause: Your Ashita folder is in a write protected area like \program files\
my game is not in program files, it is on my d drive in a folder all by itself, pol.exe is not in read only but boot.exe is in read only, unchecked the box, hit apply, confirmed the change, and hit ok but when I
check it again its back on, so I go to the folder that contains both these .exe files and try it there and it is on I turn it off, apply, confirm, hit ok and check again and its
back on

Cause: You are trying to use the installation from Steam
I am not using steam

so with all that I am thinking its the read only thing but how to fix it, I turned it off but my pc turns it back on immediately

If you're in-game, what seems to be the problem?

I am having a similar issue, I get the hairpin fix the the red "closing" but it doesn't happen every time I try to start the game, it may happen when I first try to login in the morning, it may happen if I log out for a minute, i dont know its very random but if I restart my pc after I have this issue I can log in again and may not have the issue for a day or it may happen the next time I try to log in

I made a second character and once I figure out how to dual box I had my main logged in and got the issue on my alt as login in and it closed both game windows

I looked through the troubleshooting link you posted and the only thing I see that might be an issue is I have windows 10 64 and I can't find direct play in my system, when I search it shows me an online page for it but nothing listed in my pc

as I said its random but frustrating, it happen this morning, I got up, tried to log in and got the hairpin fix...closing issue again and had to restart

Try restarting your network adapter instead of rebooting next time.

While trying to dualbox, are you using 2 different game accounts? Did you set UAC to "do not dim the screen" in windows?

the dual boxing I got working, it was the dim screen thing

I will try resetting the network next time, my network stability is awful, cox cable.......there are time its my router/modem combo will just sop working and reset itself, I have always just chalked it up to being a cox thing since it has been happening for years now and many different routers and modems and router/modem combos, when I did run sepperate modem and router it was always the modem that I had the issue with which I got from cox but the router was mine

If you've done all the fixes then I can only blame the recent windows update.
