I seem to remember in retail new players could not catch fish, is this the same on Nasomi?

If so I have just wasted about 2 hours haha

Do you mean if they have the '?' by their name? That goes away at level 10. However, let me direct you to a very helpful thread, because I don't think that's an issue on this server.

I am trying to catch crayfish in Bastok Mines but I think I have just been unlucky so far.

There is no Fishing Fatigue etc or anything like that here.

Any character can fish, even 5 seconds old, at level 1, an unlimited number of times.

Grind out your first 5 levels in Selbina. It sucks a lot, I know.

Then go from there.
