I'm approaching cooking 60 and am starting to question whether I want to take it to 100 or start a different craft.

For reference I am currently 27 RDM and intend to take this high level. I'll be leveling WHM and BLM as well for sub jobs. If iever get RDM up high, I might try bard.

I'm not looking for a craft to make the most money, but one that'll be useful to me. It seems at cooking 60 I can make most of what i need as food (i.e. yag drinks).

I did woodworking back on retail so don't want to do that again.

I'm thinking clothcraft for armor pieces.

Just looking for any advice.

Thanks.

Half the server does cooking. Remember that Refresh won't stack with Yag drinks, too.

The people who play mages and decided not to do cooking.. do clothcraft (armor).

The people who play mages and decided not to do cooking or cloth.. do woodworking (ele staves).

It's unlikely that any of these 3 will be wildly useful to your job. You'll buy ele staves and your gear before you're 100+ CC or WW.

Don't get stuck on leveling something for your job. Level any craft.

Oh wow, a post in the crafting corner that isnt a stupid request in the wrong place.

Clothcraft is one of the cheapest to level up to the 90s and definitely the most worthwhile for an aspiring mage. Cooking is meh, you can get your parfaits at a good price. Alchemy wouldnt be bad if you wanted to make money, but it'd only help you make a few crimson pieces for your rdm.. GSM would let you make your jewelry..

Go clothcraft.

is that true? srs question. I've avoided crafting so far, because I haven't decided on which one I felt like doing. It's less connected to my job, and more connected to the most interesting.. but just in general, I didn't think CC was considerd cheap.

Relative to the others it's cheap. From what I understand cooking is the cheapest.

I spend most of my time crafting actually. I only get to play for 1-2 hours on weekdays, so I tryto fill that time crafting. I only level on weekends, and that's assuming I find parties. In my case, it's not unreasonable to think I canbe high level clothcraft before getting even lvl 50.

pretty much everything you are crafting up to that lvl is always overstocked on the AH compared to other mats. Ironically, the last 1-2 levels of cloth alone may cost more then leveling other crafts to 100.

Once you get to the 90s, it is no longer cheap, and 99-100 is stupid hard and expensive right now. But in my experience CC, BC, and Alch were cheaper than the other 4 to skill up on.

I'd rank them cheapest to most expensive in three tiers:
CC(pre98), BC, Alch
WW, LC, BS
GS, CC (98-100)

Id be interested to hear what some other veteran nasomi crafters thought.

I think my biggest problem is that guides from retail don't really apply here, and I never have taken the time to determine the best path. I guess that's just part of it. Appreciate this response, that's interesting to me.

Agree with Wolf in that guides from retail do not generally apply. The availability of materials on Nasomi is quite different from retail so I found it best to take it level by level and do some investigation on the current state of the material economy as your craft progresses. I only have 100 alch and all others to 60 but you get to know the lay of the land when it comes to material cost and would generally agree with Exe's cost ranking.

It also really depends on your personal gil priorities as to whether crafting *feels* expensive. At one point in my FFXI career, I thought getting Blacksmithing to 60 as a subcraft felt like a hurdle!
