Why should this item be removed?

I actually thought it was out of era based on the last time I looked, but the original FFXI wiki entry is from 2006, so... doesn't really seem like it should be removed.

Edit: As of October 2010 the wiki article was listed as "Dat Only", while this doesn't mean it wasn't actually in game, it might not actually be in era.

There are patch notes in 2010 that specifically refer to adding this item. Before that, it was in the game files only. When it was in the game files, it only gave +7 fire resistance (and was much lower level). These notes are referred to on the page I linked on the previous page, the JP wiki. It states that the item was added in 2010.

Yeah - My question about why it should be removed wasn't along the lines of "it's out of era, duh".. More like... Why is this shield different than all of the other out of era stuff that is allowed in the game? What determines when "it's out of era" is a suitable reason for removing stuff?

I just assumed this shield was in the game, on purpose, like numerous other things that weren't in the era.

We don't really need to discuss nuking this thing... its a "neat for Tia" toy...

Lets be more proactive on what actually needs fixing/adding that effects the game positively before rocking out on a "Out of Era RRReeeEEeEe".

Parfait is an item nas knows is out of era and has it's stats nerfed accordingly.

Flame Shield is an item nas may not know is out of era, and it has what it seems like the darkstar devs intended as it's full stats.

I am very proactive about what this game needs, but this is a thread about Flame Shield.

Agreed, this is a post about Flame Shield and it should remain about it. If you have concerns or suggestions about other items that you feel are out of era, please make a post about these items so they can be judged case-by-case.
