SAMs were the masters of SC and you can't even get them to work one out for the group. Melee used to know every SC combo by heart and now... nothing. One of the many things that still makes FFXI unique to MMOs is the SC and no one cares about it here.

Without the SC, BLM don't have much purpose in the exp party.


Sometimes the opposite is true too though, I partied with a samurai recently that was hellbent on getting distortion over doing good damage. I can't remember the exact SC, but they wanted to do something like slug shot -> blade: chi and double slap -> tachi: hobaku.

That just doesnt make any sense. SC's are good, but they're a vehicle. And the destination is hyper dps.

Agree with this also, its really difficult to get people to watch other peoples TP. I've been playing corsair alot recently and my ws damage is pretty low, but it can set up compression, gravitation or distortion for some very powerful ws, but no one is willing to check my tp before they dump theirs. I usually try to time it now so that mine is going off as they're getting the last bit of tp so when they button mash we get extra damage, but it doesnt always work. Mostly because of misses or people just not watching their own tp.

I've had a one blessed party in Valkurm and one in Qufim where people talked, set up a SC and waited for each other's TP (looking in the lower right corner is HARD, amirite?). The damage was amazeballs and the BLM was certainly worth his/her spot.

And I've never seen that again since. ;_;

We should put more social pressure on skillchaining properly because it is a beautiful mechanic.

IMO SAM was never really useful for high damage WS in this era. They gained TP fast and usually could SC with any other weapon's WS.

Once BLM gets freeze the SC purpose is just to give the BLM a MB bonus. Though DD with /THF and 2h could close a SC with high damage.

Also worth noting that SMNs now can put out some sick SC damage. Had a party in cape terrigan over the weekend that was doing some nice damage with Shiva and distortion SC

Oh, so SMN SC does work now? It wasn't working when the patch rolled out.

It worked most of the time, sometimes it wouldn't go off properly (maybe a miss). It worked very well on lizards but when we moved to pugils, it seemed to not work every time, but I'm not sure what the reason behind it not working every time then was

Yes, I was likely in the group that that spoons is referring to.

We were doing penta thrust -> blade: chi -> double slap for transfixion -> distortion
and
penta thrust -> split shot -> double slap for transfixion -> distortion

on both of these, our blm followed up with a water III
SMN was doing average 700 double slaps with ~550 distortions followed by 550 water III when unresisted.
Just wanna call out pidoo for crushing the MBs, his timing was pinpoint. If we didn't start the chain at 90% or higher, the water III would be 80% wasted damage.

Also, a bit of a bug and I know ill get shot for mentioning this, but the SC still goes through and you can MB off it when the avatar misses the BP.

Wasted damage/MP. If the mob is gonna die from Water III or Freeze, it's just not worth using the AM in that case.
