My experiences with player GMs on other private servers is that it does more harm than it does good. Just my own anecdote though. It's a good thing on paper, but human nature ruins shit as usual and people ALWAYS end up abusing their power to benefit themselves or their friends. Especially if the owner isn't always around to catch them in the act.

Aside from the matter that if would kill the server or not since there's lot of hours invested for players in alts, how would you distinguish a player dualboxing from 2 players with the same ip?
If I cannot play with my wife I would for sure leave.

Honour system. If everyone knows it's not allowed, it will be less easy to get away with it [edit: I think i meant to say, "people will be less likely to do it"]. Ultimately Nasomi would have to make a decision on individual reports to see if there is enough evidence to suggest that the characters are being controlled by one person .

It wouldn't be perfect but it would work to an extent.

I have the same concern. My husband's and my characters are almost always together. Obviously it would be very disappointing if we were accused of dual boxing since we share an IP. I'm sure there's a lot of couples who play together on this server and Nas is aware of this, but it's still in the corner of my mind at times that we could be banned for something we didn't do.

Anyway, back on topic: I asked for clarification on the availability of Monomi: Ichi scrolls.

Why isn't 2 mains 1 alt enforced

Easy way to distinguish dbox from 2 players on 1 IP: If they are on the same forum account, it's dbox. If they aren't, it's 2 players.

Disposablehero: it is. Nas does regular audits to make sure of that. If you suspect someone is circumventing the system, you should report it to nas, though.

I too have just asked whether dual-boxing will be stopped (or rules changed) in the future. I said that I understand that this will upset some people if it happens, but the prevalence of alt-PLs is harming job balance (main WHMs), player skill and good party strategy. The exp may be nice, but I get bored in parties where we just zerg the mob and no one has to worry about dying, because the PL will save you and take hate. The thing I love most about FFXI is working together as a party, employing skill and strategy to be as effective as possible. Mindlessly zerg-ing mobs with no real strategy is boring and is not why I play FFXI.

In classic retail, PLing was done by friends rather than someone trying to flick between two game windows and still play effectively on their in-party character. It was rarer and involved someone actually giving up their time and not getting anything from it. In that context, it was a nice, rare treat to have a PL and was less expected than it is on Nasomi.
