This is a 17~ year old game. Most people around have already leveled multiple jobs thru 75 and beyond. There's not much more learning to be had (particularly in places like Dunes.. where it sounds like you're... complaining? about.)

People want to get beyond the sluggish low levels quickly; power leveling speeds things up ensuring that no one really has to rest. Seems pretty logical to me.

No, OP, you're not the only one that hates PLing. Threads like this pop up every so often. I'm near the "mysterious DC" range myself, although I don't share any of your reasons, I just find that at this point in my life no chance of problems = zero fun, and I can't justify spending that much time playing a game having zero fun. Given that some people have zero fun dying in the Dunes, I don't want PLing to stop, I just wish people would be up-front about it and accept people politely declining invites on that basis. As things stand, I've gotten good at avoiding them, and now that I have the subjobs I want and some different jobs over 50, I mostly just join CoP parties.

So it happens last night I was in exp pt (dunes) with the owner of this thread. I am levelling NIN, decent(ish) gear, but that job's HP being so low, anytime I provoke, shadows drops, lizzy strikes and NIN is dead. Do I want to get past these crappy levels as quick as possible? Hell yes. I am no healer, but so it happens I have 37 /whm on my main. Will I PL myself and party? Of course. Just to get to Ni as fast as I can. Learning job in dunes. As someone mentioned, try some weird job setup like thf, thf, brd, rdm, mnk and whm (to make it even more challenging so you get even better "learning", invite at least 3-4 jobs with no sub-jobs to the same party).

My understanding any jobs start to make sense at levels after 35-40ish when jobs get useful abilities at that point. SATA for THFs would be one example. Ni for NIN the other. Refresh at 41 for RDM and so on. I can't say much for WHM, but you get haste? You get teleports so if you are raging about PLs just sneak in the teleport for your party :) Actually don't. This game is not solo, so you got to take in that different people love different play styles.

Also, don't rage quit like you did yesterday, as you leave 5 people standing (so it happened, there were no people seeking so we had to disband - to me this is worse practice than having a PL).

I think the basic concept is, there's enough interesting DEEP content, and interesting job designs later on in the game, that a lot of us either don't have the time or choose to spend most of our time in higher level content where the game truly shines. If that means PLing yourself through mindless and frustrating dunes/qufim levels, why not? Most of us have played our jobs to death on retail, we're not learning anything new in the dunes 10 years later.

I guess OP found out why many people like PL's in the low levels. It's not that we're all lazy or anything, it's that it makes the majority of the parties feasible. Enjoy it when you can get it.

For Ninja pre-37, I recommend finding a ninja partner or friend to static with you. I had a blast doing this.

I heard some rangers do so much damage at lower levels the monster doesn't even do damage. So you don't need a healer at all, even out of party.

Just get good . Make your macros better and hone your skills in the dunes. Have macros for future abilities / gear / weaponskills. Practice practice practice

For example my rangers main macro is "/ra <t>". For more visit the ranger section .

-very well geared ranger in the dunes. VERY well geared.

Epics, making troll posts really don't help. Trying to frame things in a way which I didn't say isn't going to benefit anyone.

If you do more damage, the healer has to heal less, because you kill mobs faster, which means they hit you less. By this same concept, I had a SAM tank all the way to 75 - yeah, he wasn't a PLD, or a NIN, but he did have Third Eye, Utsusemi, and dealt a lot more damage than a PLD or NIN (or anyone else we partied with for that matter), which more than made up for him not being a 'real' tank. Is this really such an outrageous statement to you that you felt the need to be an ass about it?

Introducing that concept in a thread complaining about PLing because the WHM should be able to do the job is meant to express that there are times you will feel less useful as a WHM, but not necessarily because of a PL; and that sometimes, your party will only just barely function because of other party members who go above and beyond, who, again, aren't just PLs. So, it isn't really important to worry about having a PL or not, but rather, worry about what the party itself is capable of doing, and of course, how fast.
