The buyer could try to lower the price once the item is in the loot pool, since you’ll get nothing if you refuse and let it rot. That’s why I thought perhaps you would charge upfront a small price and if it happens to drop then they get it. More of a lottery ticket type transaction.

One way to combat that would be to have a close friend or an alt come along, travel with you. Then if there any shenanigans you can give that character the item

The easy solution to that is to just let the item rot unless you get paid the full amount. Dealbreakers get what they deserve: nothing.

At worst, OP's only loss is their time and whatever consumables they burn on the attempts, plus maybe seals if the buyer doesn't agree to provide the orbs.

I remember BLMs selling BCNM runs on retail. Surprised this is my first time seeing anyone attempting to do so here. Could be a good deal if you can't find anyone to run UO with.
