I have been trying for hours to get my Xbox 360 controller to work for the game. No matter what I try I cannot get the D-Pad to be recognized for menu selection, it can be recognized for various other buttons though.

I have done lots of searches and googling and youtube videos and nothing works.

Can someone recommend me a controller that will work 100% so I can buy one.

In the mean time I will have to play with keyboard only since my controller cannot navigate the menus.

Thanks!

Got a PDP Afterglow wireless PS3 knockoff from Wal-Mart that works well. Lower triggers are a bit sensitive, which toom some vetting used to but otherwise worms well. Like $20 - $30 most everywhere.

The wired Snakebyte I had worked well too ($15- $20), but after about 3 years the cheap cable was shorting out.

Used to use a Rock Candy wireless on the PC when I played retail... another PS3 clone. May still find them on Amazon for around $15 - $20.

Thanks for the suggestions. There are no Walmart in New York City and Amazon doesn't have that kind in stock.

The Rock Candy you mentioned is there, but it looks ultra cheap in the picture and dodgy quality, but that could just be the picture. I will likely buy one of those unless someone else has a better suggestion.

Stupid autocorrect keeps wanting to change it from PDP to PEP....

This is the one from Wal-Mart:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/PDP-Afterglo ... /197622624

They make them as WII and Xbox styles also. Here is a search on them at amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/s/ref=is_s ... roller+pdp

They detect as either an Xbox controller or a generic 16 button controller. Some of the triggers will show up as sliders in the Windows config tool (under devices and printers), which looks kinda weird, but it works in the ffxi config properly.

I was looking at the 310, but was concerned about the exposed round dpad design. Curious if this happens for you:

Something about how I position my thumb or somethimg... but Ive tended to get diagonal/up miscues when pressing left with those designs in the past. Not normally a problem in most games, but it has caused me to do stupid things like bid more like a stack price on a single item when in a hurry at the AH. So I started looking for designs that only expose the arrow portions of the buttons.

I do not encounter this issue with it but ive also mis bid so Im very particular when on the AH lol. But otherwise it works good for me.

Go into Nasomi/Final Fantasy XI config, go into gamepad settings, under Predefined Setups select Alternate Setup E (E), select OK, then OK again.

From here run the game and see if the D-pad works, if it does you can go back into the config and remap the buttons to what you like.

FWIW I tried using PS3 and PS4 controllers and they were wonky and didn't work properly. But for some reason an old school PS2 controller with a USB adapter works just fine for me. And it feels just like how it did when I first played like WTF FIFTEEN YEARS AGO HOLY CRAP

What the... That actually worked, you are a wizard or something. Changing it to Alternate Setup E fixed the D-Pad somehow and I just remapped the other keys from there.

Thank you so much!

I had already ordered a new controller, but I will just put it in a drawer for a backup when it arrives.
