Seems most come available right about the time you will need/want them. For example, thunder for Qufim.... yeah you want that spell for those parties.

Guess you don't technically "need" a lot of them, it is more about the efficiency factor. NIN's could run around with stacks of echoes, etc... but it is far more efficient to have a mage prepared to deal with the debuffs.

As a general rule, consider the possibility of how many levels you plan to get, and get them ahead of time if you can.

While it may seem impracticle for some things (like Erase and such), a little planning can go a long way sometimes. If you need to farm for it, may be able to work it in with the exp'ing in some cases... like Beadeaux, Giddeus, P. Mines... places where the mobs you fight drop scrolls you will be needing. I have a handful of WHM only spells stashed already, and it is still level 1. Have had Drain and Thunder for my level 2 BLM for weeks (felt sooo good when I got to use Thunder last night when I dinged 29RDM...hehe).

like I said.. everyone gets an opinion on this topic, but in mine: If you're playing the game of FFXI and reviewing the spell list to determine what you actually don't need right now... I think you're doing it wrong.

The only spells I can think of that you don't need for getting to 75 are diaga, poisonga, viruna unless you do a rare raptor pt? and maybe banish3. Well I guess drown frost and rasp too, and most of the barspells, but they're so cheap. If you can't afford them then you need to farm you scrub!

That's exactly it! What I'm trying to do is try to compile a list of spells that party members are likely to ask for. I've been asked for Haste, Refresh, Regen, Dispel - fortunately had them all. There are other spells that you're less likely to be asked for. I'm trying to create that list of those absolute must have that even if you have to stop exping and only do quests or craft or fish for a long time to get then you should.

As long as it's categorized as a Guide and linked as such from the job page, feel free to set up a spell priority guide, I think it's a good idea for people who don't have that much FFXI experience. Guides are meant for that kind of subjective opinion about how to play something.

If however you'd post on the Red Mage page "You just need heals, a few debuffs, Dispel and Refresh then gtfo", that might ruffle some feathers. :lol: Anyway, don't get baited here man and do your thing.

For your guide Night, here's top priority rolls for Corsair:

Essentials:
  • Lvl 11 - Hunter's Roll (Accuracy)
  • Lvl 14 - Chaos Roll (Attack)
  • Lvl 40 - Evoker's Roll (Refresh)

Good to have in some physical parties:
  • Lvl 37 - Samurai Roll (TP per hit), you don't have a DRK and you have a SAM, try this for a change
  • Lvl 49 - Fighter's Roll (Double Attack), for groups with many 2-handed weapons and a WAR. Heads will roll.

You have a high-level BLM friend that you group up with:
  • Lvl 46 - Evoker's Roll (Magic Accuracy)
  • Lvl 58 - Wizard's Roll (Magic Attack)

Corsair's Roll isn't included, as it is your reward for doing the job-unlocking quest.

It will be useful to have that list. Good idea. Players who begin to play in parties can't know all of what will be expected of them. This is information I needed.

This thread made me realize I've been neglecting scroll purchases. :shock:
