There's a lot of crap being talked about in this thread, however I feel that if any major issue went unfixed for any extended period of time, he wouldn't be showing the numbers he is.

Agreed, I dont think some people can fathom what an absolute undertaking this is. Yes we should expect the best, but considering everything, the server is a pretty accurate representation of what we all loved.

Addendum: The login server issues that have been happening should now be fixed too.

Nas isn't going to be moving on nor can the server grow "too big". He's spent $40k on hardware alone and has run into massive issues with how dsp works given such a large server. Every single server starts off promising things that other servers don't have - then they take donations, have GMs, a 'team', and it all falls apart. Nas's best feature is the fact that, among all this doomsaying, as server rise and fall, he has been around - and never took donations, and removed drama, etc.

He gets shit on for "bad uptime" even though he's built a generator shed and got 0 sleep for 4 days in a row because he needed to refuel it after storms took out power to his whole house. Meanwhile other servers shut down permanently because they just didn't feel like it anymore. Servers that took people's money. That have now cost it's players hundreds of thousands of hours of playtime collectively. Nas doesn't do that and won't do that.

He'll accept help only once he really needs it. People had the same criticisms now as they did a year ago when we had 500 players: "How can nas handle them all? He NEEDS help NOW! Other servers do X so much better!". Most servers don't make it to the 1 year mark, let alone the 5.5 nas has, and building a server off of creating features that other servers don't have as your only selling point isn't going to end well for them. Never has. As far as help goes? That's up to him. He isn't going to see the server crash and burn out of stubbornness. The dudes not perfect but he knows what he's doing (it helps that I talk to him about it daily and get an insight into that though).

Stay tuned for the Q&A and you may understand better why things are the way they are, maybe why things were so slow this past year as far as nas's activity. This isn't normal for him, and yet he's still accomplished a lot.

Wow, that's spending big money on a hobby. You could buy a car for that and still have a lot of change left.

Well, looks like the fix didn't work. Don't worry, nas will still continue to look into it.

Maybe you have the insight to be able to make this claim comfortably, but no one else does. Nasomi almost never interacts with the community anymore, so all the average player gets is long periods of mostly radio silence, occasionally broken by unverifiable secondhand info from another player who simultaneously claims to be in the loop, but not so in the loop that they're an actual server authority... and then sudden, absolute changes (with obscure descriptions) that seem to come out of nowhere and totally shake up the server - often breaking as much as they fix. Not exactly a setup that builds confidence.

Like I said before, most of us appreciate the hell out of Nasomi for what he does - we just want this server to do well because at this point, frankly, we're shit out of luck with this hobby if it doesn't.

Hence all the offers to help, suggestions and complaints.

This is the only think that I 100% agree with. There wouldn't even be a need for a Q&A session (that's pushed back for months) if Nas just showed-up every now and then on the forum. People want a way to communicate with the person who runs this place. Nabutso, you may not have GM privileges on the server but you do have the very unusual privilege of being able to talk to Nas directly.
Also, I don't believe that people would spam him and/or use the kind of language that (some people) use here and if they do then they deserve whatever punishment Nas see fit.

I feel like you're talking about me still, and rest assured: I'd happily speak to Nas in the same way as I do here, because I believe Nab when he says that Nas reads most forum posts... So I'm pretty certain he's aware of where I feel like the shortcomings are. Also, with this topic specifically, I don't actually care if he ever fixes it. It doesn't impact me much. I don't XP a ton, and I have plenty of things to do and people to talk to when the search goes down. That's why I said that I believe Nas's goal is to see the server continue to grow and evolve, as he seems extremely proud of the size, and stability of the experience is the #1 priority for that to be that way. If he'd rather code events, and work on fixing Banish working on undead then so be it...

Most of us aren't going anywhere because every other private server is terrible, and those that pretend that isn't true are just plain retarded. That doesn't mean we shouldn't ask for, and help identify, the best ways to improve the server. For as long as he isn't accepting help, his resources are finite. I'd like him to point those finite resources at the areas that actually help him achieve the goals he has let on that he has. You thinking it's rude to make critical suggestions says way more about you.

I don't believe adults should find my tone rude or condescending, or that I have to preface every critical post about the server with "I obviously appreciate everything Nas does, but.." because I believe that should be assumed and able to be discarded when adults talk to each other.

I'm not necessarily referring to you.
But just judging from the number of posts beginning with "you're an idiot" or something similar shows that we indeed have a problem here and if Nas indeed frequently reads the posts here (maybe answers using an alt?) and obviously doesn't have to take that shit from anyone, people may need to start being more polite. I don't mean that you have to start every post with "I obviously appreciate...", just that we shouldn't write stuff that can be interpreted as though Nas owes us something. Actually more politeness in general wouldn't hurt - there are a lot of new people coming to the server lately. Some have never played classic FFXI before, some have not played FFXI at all, some have never even played an MMO before so there bound to be some stupid question but it doesn't automatically mean that someone's trolling.

Nas used to post on the forums but everything he said got picked apart like crazy. The biggest reason for the Q&A delays is exactly that, too, he's trying to be very careful and precise with what he says.

It's easy for us to say "just talk cmon bro" because nothing we say is really looked at that critically, honestly.

Don't blame him at all. The community on this forum is drastically different than the people I play with in the game. This forum is pretty toxic.
