Hi, all.

Just started playing - love the server and reliving the FFXI prime. It's really hitting home.

One thing I was wondering was if there was a guide on all the random quests new players should do to capitalize on free gear/handouts in the beginning.

For example, I started in Sandy, and got leather gloves for giving someone 3 sheep skins. For someone with 0 gil, this helped tremendously and was a huge surprise. I also grabbed the wing pendant and I've been trying to raise my fame to get the Friar's Rope.

Is there a must-do quest guide like this?

This is great thanks! I'm weary of it, though, as right off the bat, I see it's missing every quest I mentioned. My anxiety is telling me I'm missing hundreds of unmentioned quests - as irrational as that sounds.

It lists all the quests and the rewards in one table so its easier to see if quests give items or gil. Granted it lumps together all quests including late game stuff, but you can can click on the reward item and see if it's something you can use.

(I only did the one for San d'Oria as I assume that's where you are)

For beginning gil you can just ah items that mobs drop (e.g. crystals), could be faster gil than quests (just make sure you have signet).
Other than gil, some must do quests - Available supply quests to whatever regions you can safely reach and subjobs quest as soon as you hit level 18.

Feels like someone is asking for a massive, weirdly curated, list of game information.

quest for Drain and Friars Rope are two of the better ones in sandy that you can do early on.

Trojaness’ link is super helpful. Note the first column for fame. You can do any of those that require fame of 1. after several quests have been completed, you’ll be able to do any that are marked 2.

Just to be clear, this wasn't me posting yet another "how do i make gil lol???" topic. I've read all the guides and it more came about when I got those leather gloves. I know they vendor for a measly 300 gil, but it was a real nice surprise and got me thinking I was missing more.

Someone (don't remember who) suggested that for the first few gil you can buy a stack of Quus (200gil on AH) then do the quest "The Cold Light of Day" repeatedly for 500gil each time.
Eventually you'll just want to start fishing from gil though, you can start as soon as your level is high enough to make the way to Selbina.

at some point you’re going to want to travel to the other cities, Bastok and Windurst. when you do, try to do it when there is an outpost warp that you can complete nearby. This will allow you to warp back and skip most of the journey for subsequent visits.

Bastok: Zulkheim or Gustaberg OP supplies and Dem telecrystal in Konschtat Highlands.
Windurst: Kokshushu or Sarutabaruta OP supplies and Mea telecrystal in Tahrongi Canyon.

For those not from Sandy:
Sandoria: Zulkheim or Ronfaure supplies and Holla telecrystal in La Theine Plateau.

This applies to other areas in game as well, such as the deserts, jungles, northlands, jeuno, etc.

there were some good starter quests in the other cities as well, it might be a good idea to look those up during your first visit there.
