Probably SAM or RNG. RNG if memory serves puts out insane dps, but SAM hits like a truck.

Samurai is most often the highest dps.

Melee WHM is god tier

Drk has the highest base Str of all the jobs. But not necessarily highest dps class.

Depends on what your best geared DD job is. I've seen someone level RNG using Beetle Arrows (lvl 17) with a lvl 40 bow in The Boyadha Tree (lvl 65~), highest damage job means nothing unless you have the gear to back it up.

SAM is probably your best general purpose DD because they can generate TP very quickly, allowing them to perform weaponskills at a rate faster than most other jobs. They also have an adequate skill rating with polearms as an alt weapon outside of their native great katana to take advantage of monsters that are weak against piercing like birds/flies/etc.

That being said, everything in this game is situational and there are a wide variety of situations where you would be better off with another job as DD. There is no singular class that is the best at everything in FFXI throughout any era.
