I've legitimately never partied with a SMN who we looked to for healing in an XP party. Not a single time.

The majority of people leveling SMN are jumping on the bandwagon because they used to be doing 40-60% too much damage with physical BPs.

After the fixes, you'll have better exp leaving out the other healer and adding another DD/NIN as long as you have a BRD or COR (or better yet both) to support the SMN's mp.

There is no other healer. Its RDM, SMN, 4DD (or 3 and a BRD/COR). Thats the comp a SMN gets invited to.

I think he's saying that you can run SMN, BRD/COR, 4 DD/NIN fairly well.

i've just never seen that done

Not "fairly well", better.

SMN just doesn't fill the DD role well in exp parties now that it's damage is more accurate to retail.

Meh.. I don't know about better. It probably depends what you're fighting. If your SMN is able to keep up hastega while also main healing, and you aren't fighting things with a lot of AoE or things that tear through shadows.. I'd agree with you.. Probably need a BRD though, instead of COR, to elegy?

Otherwise, having RDM/WHM and BRD/COR seems like it still is better in some later camps (like flies). I'd certainly be willing to give it a go, just might have trouble keeping up depending on the party comp.

With a BRD and COR a SMN can get 8+mp/tic refresh since you can use melon/yag juice too. Flies are not so bad anymore because mobs hold TP properly at higher health.

I do agree on that smn may not be better. With BRD and COR a rdm could dia2 each mob.

SMN can handle AoE healing easily and hate free. My argument here isn't that SMN + COR/BRD is better than RDM/WHM + COR/BRD, but rather that SMN + 4 DD is better than SMN + RDM/WHM + 3 DD.

Last time I partied on SMN with a WHM they were complaining that they didn't have anything to do with their MP and ended up just spamming Dia II. Replace that with a DD.

And everything goes out the window without a BRD or COR. But then your exp is likely to be mediocre anyway so bring whatever you want!
