For instance there's an NPC in Selbina selling an out of era spell scroll that you can't use. 30k gone. Of course I got pissed.
good point. Now how would you feel if others could use that spell for 2 years and 2 days after you bought yours just that spell is going away?
Now how would you feel if you saved up for two years. Two years while Chatoyant Staff is being used by others, while balance changes are made it to etc. Then you buy your staff. Then Nasomi decides to remove all the iridil and chat staves from game, after you've sold your other staves of course. I mean they are out of era. Just because they are in the game and people are using them buying and selling them etc. So what the day you buy yours, is the day they are getting removed.
Now in both cases the PW and staff thought experiment the farmers of PW, or the crafters have made their profits selling the item to you. They get to keep the gil they made doing this thing which others are now calling broken or exploitable but at the time was totally allowed. You get to lose your item that you worked very hard earning money in ways they are not calling broken or exploitable. Mind you he's going to leave the other out of era stuff in game still, just doing the staves right now. Oh and those people that made all the money selling to you and the other people, they get to keep their money. How do you feel about that? is that strike you as fair? As just unlucky being caught holding the item being deleted?
You've now got to buy your old staves back, from the same guys that profited from selling you the chat staff. That's going to feel even better. putting more money out to buy equipment everyone who had the item that just got deleted now needs. bet that demand in price doesn't raise those prices.
I understand the reasons for wanting to balance stuff. But doing so now penalizes those of us who purchased the items and not those who got them. They get to keep their gil. Nor does it address all the other "ez mode" items generated at the same time, from beak necklaces sold fro 250k (nq) or 1mil (hq) or ceb mantles, khamria bonnets, that neck piece that does regen, every single 5% haste turban that people had prior to today, fowling earring, guarda band, etc, etc.
The stated reason for the removal of items is to return things earned on "ez mode" yet not everything is being returned, and the people with them are not necessarily the people that participated in a thing that was not technically against the rules. Like the chatoyant staff is right now not technically against the rules, not limited, not turned off. even though it is out of era or staff "Ez mode"
What bothers me is what my choices are right now. I can choose to sell the stuff i have that is getting removed, suckering someone else into holding a soon to be deleted item (you see the price of nana in bazzars was like 250k today for at least two sales people trying to get something instead of nothing. Those buyers almost assuredly didn't know the item they have is likely to be removed. Just someone else passing the buck. Or I can hold the item and hope it is not removed because I didn't do anything "Wrong" even if what you are calling "wrong" is getting the item, that was someone else. Those people already profited and get to keep those profits with no penalty at all.
