I remember when even SE recommended this before playing, but still the game doesn't considered to bring some helpers for some things.
I played way too much back in 2005 and sure IRL damage was done in some ways. But after, life improved and its all ok. Almost 13 years after, I found about Nasomi, decided to play again but I said to myself "this will be the last priority in my life". The result is that I struggle to make "friends" ingame ofc because I don't play much (eu time makes things even worse), so I only do exp parties for fun.
The problem? it was all ok until the genkai/limit quests. I managed to solo even 2-3 dragon and up to rank4 by just leveling a mnk and nin or sj quests just by leveling a bit without it.
Now that I have hit the 50 Limit, I have the bad feeling, like I will have to leave the game soon, already leveled two jobs up to 50, (drk and pld), tried to solo some L1/G1 mobs with them (no chance). Maybe they are soloable as rdm/nin, I could try leveling it...
Unless you have a high level character in the game as a friend, or you are lucky enough that some random dude is willing to help another random dude just for the lulz, your only chance is shouting and cross your fingers, this means a lot of time will be involved just by waiting the chance, so its starting to drain some real life time. And its not only genkai, its also the af quests even tho they are easier to solo once you lv a 75 char.
From my point of view, and considering there are a lot of returning players in their 30's (playing with their wife there yelling, kids, or even babies...) who don't want to trade their souls to the game, Nasomi could implement the ??? alternatives for this quest, or some extra helpers (I mean I remember that you could summon some npc back in 2005? not talking about trust ofc, juts an elvaan npc). Having everything else like the old FFXI from 2005 its nice, but these kind of fun killers are a pain to deal with. I understand that its a multiplayer game and that's the way SE made it, but these LIMIT quests just prevents you from keep playing the "xp party game" (something that can be done casually more or less). I will probably give up doing endgame stuff for the same reason, I don't want to sacrifice my life like its 2005 ^^. I still have some jobs to level up to 50 just for fun, but after that, if isn't soloable by any of them, it will probably be the game over for me (which isn't too bad either). If that time comes, ask me for my stuff LOL, not rich but I have enough stuff.
Sorry you've had a rough time getting things done on this server. It would appear that Nasomi has designed the server with an attempt of trying to recreate that 2005 era. If you want something that's soloable, that's okay, however this server doesn't cater to that. There are plenty of servers to solo content on. I wish you the best of luck in finding one you're most satisfied with.
I enjoy the nostalgia here, and the grind is part of that for me. I have memories that I'm very fond of of my original run through, back before I made many mistakes in my life. Right now I'm working on salvaging myself and I don't think that this game impacts me negatively while doing so.
