I attempted to do the BRD flag quest, and I am stuck. I spoke to Mertaire and the rest of the people in the Merry Minstrel Meadhouse, travelled to Buburimu with parchment in hand, clicked on the Song Rune, got the cutscene with Lewenhart, and traded the parchment to the Song Rune. It took the parchment, but i never received the "Poetic Parchment". I went back and forth between Jeuno and Buburimu talking to everyone. I tried trading another parchment, and nothing happens. I've checked every bit of inventory over and over including Mog House storage, delivery box, key items, etc. My quest log shows that "The Old Monument" quest is complete, but i can't start/finish "A Minstrel in Despair" without the "Poetic Parchment."

Am i missing something? Is there somewhere else i should check? Can the quest be reset?

I think I had this problem too, just talking to the song runes in valkurm dunes solved it and completed the quest.

I've tried that, but I'll give it another shot next time I'm on.

Tried talking to both Runes in Buburimu and Valkurm Dunes, with no luck. Still stuck.

Try to get a hold of Nasomi in the chat room. He helped me when I got stuck in a different quest. He'll help you too.

I just completed this quest last night.

After you obtain poetic parchment you trade it to Mertaire at the inn in lower jeuno. Once that is done you complete the quest and get 2100 gil. The next step is you talk to the mithra behind counter at the inn and she mentions runes in the dunes. Go there and just click the song runes (no parchment needed) and a CS will start. You get 3000 gil and unlock bard right there.

I Want To Make Gil

It's not that i don't know what to do, or how to complete the quest. I don't have the Poetic Parchment to trade to Mertaire. After the CS in Buburimu, and after trading a parchment to the song rune in buburimu, I do not have a Poetic Parchment ANYWHERE in my inventory to be able to trade it to Mertaire, however i do have 1 less parchment. I have tried going back and forth to both the Buburimu and Dunes runes, with no resolution.

I'll give it a shot. Last time i saw Nas on, it was for the maintenance last week.

He gets grumpy about whispers, but if you whisper him he'll usually respond and since you've been having the problem for a while he'll likely understand.
