Aiwyn/Aewyn.

Now that I've listed mine, how about everyone in favor of it do the same so I know whom to avoid inviting when I get the notion to make a party? Fair is fair.

A tool that tells you what someone is currently wearing tells you jack all. I seek while fishing, meaning I've wearing the mithra summer swimsuit, fishing gear, and a weapon I like the look of. Or while farming, melee gear on my rdm.

If you guys want to gearcheck, do the legwork yourselves. Ask someone to meet up so you can see If their TP/WS Or Elemental/Enfeebling/Healing/Mp recovery sets, and food choice meet your standards. Some people might go along with it, personally I'd just laugh in your face(s) and wait to be invited to the next party. I'd rather group with relaxed people that have naked characters than high-strung try hards anyway.

I'm in favor of it because I've taken the time to have farmed up, camped, or run BCNMs for reasonable gear. I'm not decked out in every slot with +1 and there have been times where I might have had an upgrade or two available, but I've kept my weapons up to date and +1'ed, had the important and reasonably obtainable NM drops, etc. I probably won't swap from scorpion arrows to demon at 60 because holy heck I'd go through 100k+ just in arrows every experience party and I can't afford that. I am considering stopping at 60 to run a ton of OWNMs to try and farm up an E-Bow, though, because I think it's a significant enough upgrade to be worth it.

But I'm not worried about my ability to get a party if this feature existed. Even if I'm not running the absolute best of the best in gear, it should hold up just fine for getting invites. Someone isn't going to automatically assume you're terribly geared when you're obviously in a fishing outfit or naked in your moghouse. It'll be used to weed out the people that are playing PLD and are wearing Dunes gear in their 40s.

So, it's ok for someone like myself, who has spent countless hours fishing and cooking to lvl it and farm/make gil, to get stuck with someone who farms none and refuses to gear himself properly for his job? We aren't asking for elite gear, we are asking for job appropriate gear and a knowledge past 3rd grade reading level when equipping said gear. If that is not what you are looking for in a party member, I think Wolf knows a rdm thats looking for an invite.

I have 100 fishing, spent countless hours farming in just about every zone I can effectly do so in, KSNM/Bcnm/OWNN, camped NMs, flipped things on the AH/manipulated markets (typically undercutting/deflation), and done everything endgame this server has to offer to obtain my gear, and carried my fair share of low-effort players. Get off your high horse.

Here's another wild thought, instead of whining and raging over people with trash gear, how about offering to help? Point them in the direction of a good farming spot. Make them grab a KS/Beast seal orb and carry em through an easy win for $ drops. Point them away from the agility gear they want for their Warrior and toward the Strength gear. You know, things that will solve the problem by encouraging someone to up their game, rather than perpetuate it by excluding them and leaving them in the dark.

I agree to an extent, but all too often people take advice as insult and get offended that you offered to help them unsuck their gear. Or they give you the old, its just sj, or "I'm a bard/corsair I get invited anyway". People can do more to help each other out, but more than that ppl need to be able to take some criticism.

You're making the assumption that these people care. In my experience, they generally don't.

I see people show up with unstatted gear from 30 levels ago. You don't get into your 50s with that without understanding that you're showing up with gimp gear, and there's a huge amount of detail out there on how to make money in this game.

well... my name is rather clear, after all. Obviously, I wouldn't use the tool when I was inviting everyone. Especially if I look and they're in dream gear or fishign gear or random shit. But if I'm picking amongst rank 1-3's to invite to amid 50's party, and this tool shows me a MNK with an NQ str +1 ring and bastok ring at lvl 54 and lvl 30 hands? Yeah... Miss me with that bullshit.

Honestly: I just invite the highest rank people, all things being equal. You're invited to play the game however you want, that doesn't mean you get to hold me captive with the waste of time.

Also.. I generally seek naked, so that I can switch jobs for events if one comes up quickly. That being said, if this tool existed, I probably would stop doing that so I can rule that out as a reason I'm not getting parties.

Your solution of "just tell them what they're doing wrong" is noble, and some may be receptive, but in general... people just ignore you or take it personally.

Also.. To be honest, I don't see this ever being implemented. I'm basically all for any reason that would motivate newer players to slow down and stop showing up to parties with horrible gear because they don't see the point in farming, though.

You say this, but for Argument's sake back when Nasomi only had a rolling population of 400-ish players I was leveling Warrior as a sub job. I was fresh out of a Valkurm party, still wearing level 15-ish gear. Put my flag up while poking around town, get a /tell for a Garliage Citadel party. I say 'Sure! ' and start running back and forth to gather gear - still wearing the lowby stuff.

PT leader is in same town. Gives me a /check. I don't think anything of it, and continue about gearing up. When I'm set I realize I havent gotten an invite, so I send a tell to see what's up. "Sorry, your gear's {too weak}.' I've also had people check me while fishing and /slap me for an obvious aesthetic decision, or /check me while in town between farming runs (or just poking around in gear I like the looks of) and /slap or /no me because they don't realize red mages gotta farm too or I just like how Paladin looks wearing Mythril armor with a Nagan slapped on it's back.

Those people hadn't even seen my level/party appropriate gear on any of those occasions. So yes, people most certainly will abuse the tool or make ignorant mistakes, thinking the information they have at hand is enough to render judgment.

Edit: I wonder how many people noped over me between Last Saturday and about Thursday, when I flipped my Nation to Windurst and was running around as a level 50+ rank 1 Dark Knight...

I don't think any of those points is a bad thing. We all have some less-favored jobs that are just okay-geared. But I'd like to be done with Rangers that don't shoot and toilet paper tanks.

why would you even play the class if you're not going to play the class

I don't know... It blows my mind too.

I don't know if there's a DPS job that can do passable damage without expensive gear, spells and upkeep costs, but Ranger definitely ain't it.

I feel like this falls under the same argument of use vs abuse as dps parsers, and we already know where Nas stands on that.
All I'd like to do is prove that kick attacks (and the items that enhance it) are screwed up, but that's very difficult without a parser.

Side Note: Eastern Shadow is VERY easy to camp, see here for complete info and screenshots:

Stupid people exist. It doesn't mean we shouldn't get useful things because stupid people will use them incorrectly.
