but for real, I mostly agree with Dim. I think it's funny to make fun of the lack of effort that people display when they are leveling as 28/7 or something. They almost certainly didn't outlevel their SJ in one party, like Dim suggested, because the vast majority of players aren't insane like Dim. They're most likely ignorant/lazy and just trying to get to 30 for some reason. Whatever. The actual practical impact on the party is close to nil, and if you are actually partying with someone that doesn't have something because of their SJ being underleveld that the party actually needs..... Be mad at the party leader. They invited someone that clearly didn't have something the party needed. The player with the poor SJ? He can play the game however he wants, just like you're welcome to not party with them.

I think its more that in order for someone to go as low as bash people in the dunes just showcases their own lack of aptitude for playing this game. Complain about a player ACTUALLY underperforming, not the appearance of it.

You should try to do your best at all times in online games, but if you're up front with people and they don't mind that you're coming in half-cocked I don't see a problem with it. It's a bad thing if you have a gimped subjob and you're /anon, but as long as you're not and you're up front at that point it's up to the other party members if they want to stick around or not.

You could level a core job all the way to 75 if it strikes your fancy sans sub job. Most gear isn't totally relevant either. Iv'e been in parties on retail with a naked Nin that tanked perfectly because he could. Basically keep your weapon level appropriate for dmg output, Defense if you plan on tanking and try to keep your skills capped.

Also know your job and for the love of god Google something. You know how many players iv'e pointed to FFXIclopedia? The response? "Oh wow i didn't know that existed."

My issue isn't that a subjob being leveled is vital to success in all cases, but that the vast majority of people with gimp subjobs are also the people with gimp gear and bad understanding of the game. Having a subjob leveled isn't proof that you'll be good at the game, either. Nor is having good gear.

But for every dimitri there's 50 people who you can use the lack of a subjob as a reliable indicator of sucking and not caring that they suck.

I partied as a 30THF/15BST cause my WAR was like level 12 and I stalled on playing thru the dunes for the 4th time in a row.

But I also never find myself needing provoke and BST added enough HP to pump up my stats a bit at that level. I know we are mostly talking about extreme cases here but I think it's fine to bend the rules at times as long as you have good gear and know what is expected of you at your level.
