So I'm new to the server (couple months in) and I've seen it discussed a couple times that people think TH works like we all originally thought it worked way back in the day, where a thf just has to be on the mob's hate list to have full TH on it.

What I'm wondering is when SE did their update a long time ago where it started showing in chat what level of TH a mob has on it, didn't they say that's how it always worked and it just didn't show in the chat so no one knew until then? Am I remembering wrong? I've tried researching to see but it's hard to find this old info anymore.

No, you're misremembering. TH never went above what you had equipped+traits until long after ToAU. In the chat or not.

I should rephrase, as long as the THF has acted on the mob in some way(JA, Ranged, melee, spell), TH is on the mob. You can't cure someone, get on the hatelist that way and apply TH.

As Kazen said, TH definitely works like a debuff rather than just being on the hate list. You have to directly act on the enemy. However one action should apply the highest level of TH you have equipped. There also seems to be a range aspect to it. If a monster wanders too far from the THF, like in Dynamis, they seem to lose their TH effect (not sure what the distance is -- maybe 20 units?).

It's definitely important to make sure the THF has acted on the mob recently (in case the mob has wandered off or the THF has died, for example) and is still within range of it when it dies.

There are still some superstitions that people claim to believe on Nasomi, such as THF kill and whatnot but I don't believe any of that.

I have heard the one about applying the most recent level of TH. As in if you take of assassins hands and hit it with TH 3 only, that is the new TH level. Also applies to more than 1 thf or /thf. I know it sounds like BS but I’ve heard it said. Any thoughts on that rumor?

As a blu who regularly /thf on hnm and such, I strongly believe this to be the case. Coincidence, superstition or truth, I err on the side of caution

If there is a range where it falls off, it's definitely more than 20 yards. I also do not believe for a minute that TH gets overwritten by lower levels.

Do some OWNMs with a TH4 THF that keeps attacking after sync and then only having TH2 vs. a THF with only TH2. Couple of days of each and there'll be no doubt in your mind either.

I'm very surprised, or perhaps something has changed. Months of it here, and at this point my opinion is that if you only have TH2 the only reason to go is keeping the TOD.
