Heyo,

Just did a test run to see what the new "Going Dry" effect would be like.

- Zoned in at 5:49PM
- Started fishing @ 5:56PM
- Started getting non-stop "Caught nothing" messages at 6:29PM

Moved down the ledge a few times, about ~20-30 paces total and I was able to fish again. So just move a little once every 40mins by the looks of it and you're fine.

Thanks,
Rabid

Edit #1: In terms of the distance required to reach a new spot, I've found that just running inland a bit, then back to the exact spot that had gone dry "refreshes" the spot. So it might just be a "run distance X away from where it was to rest" OR "Just move a total of X before fishing again".

In case it helps, I'll provide my experience. I'll be using chatlog times.

Location: Selbina

[18:18:29] Logged on in Selbina. Started fishing within the minute, as indicated in the next timestamp. There are a few afk breaks.
[18:18:59] "You give up."
[18:26:23] "Keepo caught a cobalt jellyfish!" (Proceeded to catch fish somewhat regularly)
[18:40:52] "Keepo caught a cobalt jellyfish!" (Final one before dry)
[19:04:07] After 67 attempts dry (unaware of the update), I stopped and looked into a solution. After being informed, I moved about 5 or so steps to the left.
[19:16:40] "Keepo caught a cobalt jellyfish! (First one after moving)

So...you got 20 minutes of fishing before the spot dried up? Edit: And then you only got 10 minutes before you had to move again!?

So much for 'People who aren't afk fishing won't even notice a difference!'

This update already stopped multiple bots that logged back on and kept casting and not catching anything for hours. So if you're a fisher and don't want the fish prices nerfed.....

No, there was only 1 time I moved in those screenshots/timestamps.

[19:04:07] After 67 attempts dry (unaware of the update), I stopped and looked into a solution. After being informed, I moved about 5 or so steps to the left.
After quite a few attempts, I gave up and started looking online to see if this was normal behavior on this server. This took me about 10 mins or so.

After reading the thread and being informed of the change, I decided to take a few steps to left. My first cast was a catch. I stopped logging.

As for "People who aren't afk fishing won't even notice a difference!", well, you definitely will. Without this change, you had no reason to move around in a safe location. Now, you have to move around. And because you don't know when the fatigue is active, combined with the chain misses that exist at least at lower levels, I found it's better to move around anytime you miss 3 in a row. Is that necessary? No, not really, but I don't like wasting my time trying to determine if it's fatigue or just bad rng.

That's basically why I'm okay with it, same with the Moat Carp changes.

As a newer player to a server, it sucks not having my go-to Fishing money right off the bat. But as someone who played back then and had to deal with fishing bots crashing Moat Carps, I'd say that I can get over this change for the sake of that. It's still better than that awful super fishing fatigue Square Enix implemented.

The fishing fatigue that SE introduced was good for those who couldn't spend hours a day fishing. Catching 200 fish does take a while, but I still feel like it was a hard Nerf.

The fact that all you need to do is take a few steps to one side or another to resume fishing feels like it is a better way to stop bots, rather than a daily catch limit. But sadly, it can be circumvented by bots easily by adding some code to the program they use.

I honestly haven't noticed much of a difference between moving a few feet every so often, over just sitting there spamming the fish button.

I agree. If it means less bots, which I'd be skeptical on, I'm all for it. It's a very minor inconvenience.

I do kind of wish there was a way for me to know if it's the 'dry up' fatigue or bad rng, but I think if there was a way to tell, bots could use that. As it is right now, if I miss a few in a row, I can simply move a bit and not risk wasting more time. Nothing too bad.

This is my concern. How hard would it be to tweak a bot to move the character a few steps left or right every so often? I'm assuming the bots used for fishing don't already have that kind of parameter, but I'm only assuming that because it's never really been necessary for FFXI fishing to my knowledge.

I feel like at the end of the day this is probably gonna have a bigger impact - even if minimal - on legitimate players than it does bots.
