It's a buff to the silent oil and prism powder markets? It helps counter the buff 75/80 gobbie bags provide? He remembers that before the days of guaranteed 8 minute sneak/invis, players were regularly bad and didn't carry oil/powder and got themselves killed on the way to camps, so this isn't strictly QoL?

But even if it was QoL-only, he also increased the time between chocobo feedings from a minute to an hour a few months ago, so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise.

Yes, it is era accurate to make sneak, invisible, and tonko spells have a random duration between 30 seconds and six minutes. However, what is still out of era is that the player can see how long their buffs are going to last. That disclosure almost completely negates the challenge of a random spell duration. This can be seen by people cancel-recast spamming spells until they get the duration that they want, and (I predict, since I'm not playing with this BS) by people who will schedule stops at predictable waypoints in their journeys based on the duration that they accepted so that they can conveniently cheese the spells once more. As a former WHM and RDM endgame retail player from this era, I would occasionally have to recast sneak and invis if I rolled 30 seconds, but for the most part, the spamming that people are reporting didn't happen in retail because people didn't know when they would get the 30-second warning. Because people would only know 30 seconds in advance that they needed to find an aggro-free place to recast, it made the game interesting, and everyone worth their salt kept oils and powders on hand. Nice try, Nas, but you can't half-bake this one.

Absolutely this, last night I was in a party who went to Boyahda Tree when we got slammed with the realisation of how garbage Sneak/Invis has become. It took ages just to get to camp constantly running back and forth finding safe spaces to reapply spells, and fighting the odd mob that inevitably aggros.

Who cares how "Era accurate" this is when it's just a big time waster, one of the reasons I like this server was the reliably long steath durations so everyone can just get on and play.

this change is just infurating. , it doesnt add anything , because we can see the duration of the buffs

roll a low sneak ? , remove and recast .....

plust a change like that in server that has this population it mades 0 sense , in retail there were ppl everywhere , so there were more "safe zones" , boyahda tree for example , low lvl ppl exp camps on at least 3 spots , higher lvl ppl camping far away , and ppl doing skilling up pts ...tons of places to stop and recast

here u have some1 camping a nm and if lucky , maybe the odd xp pt ...

It's era accurate (aside from knowing your duration ahead of time) and adds to the danger of traversing zones, a VITAL aspect of exploration in FFXI. Get over it.

So far I've only seen fixed durations with Monomi: Ichi and Tonko: Ni. 3 and 10 minutes respectively.
