This is just ridiculous. I am level 25 fishing, fishing up cat fish, using a composite pole, and a minnow. Ever since the update, I'll get a lot of the "You didn't catch anything." after catching just 3 fish. I feel like he didn't just change that it goes dry in that one spot, just lowered catch rate. Before the update, I'd get maybe 1-2 of those messages every 10 catches or so. I tried moving to three locations until finally I got one.

On top of that, you can also see that I had literally just moved into the spot when I got all of those messages due to me selling the items.

I agree. Since the update fishing has been pretty awful, continual "you didn't catch anythings" even after I've moved all the way across the map, not just 5-20 yalms from my old fishing spot. The 3/1 patch continues to let down the playerbase.

I want to say that it feels about the same. Sometimes you have good days, others not so much. Catch rate isn't really consistent from day to day.

As Cherry said some of it is just rng. Particularly low level you get a billion no bites as you skill up. Way before the patch ever happened I have plenty of screenshots of like 1 bite in 20 casts at 96 skill from bad rng streaks. Lately I've been testing some niche isolation fish and am getting like 10% bite rate which seems a bit low since in theory the cap for a single fish is 45%.

Same for me... Most often I fish for like 30-45 minutes in Qu'fim without more than 2-3 You didn't catch anything in a row.

Do you think that Nasomi tied fishing success rate to moon phase, day and/or weather? Do we need to start a weird religion that observes those things?

I initially thought the same, but after tracking data for literally hundreds of casts, it's pretty much the same once you factor out likely 'drying up' stretches (in other words, taking Sole in Qufim as an example, you'll basically never beat an average 40-45% catch rate over a long period of time.. though Sauro seems to consistently be closer to the 45% mark - just tossing that out there). I wasn't paying attention to the moon phase/day/etc.

That said, I've yet to do any worthwhile analysis of how the multiple-catches-with-a-rig thing factors in.. Sure, you can get double-sole/double-squid/double-sword catches, but they also can catch any fish the zone has, so your potential pool of trash/low-gil fish gets much higher (as does your chance to break any rod that's breakable, since you might land fish you can't catch). Definitely worth some further study..

Thanks for sharing that data Armaddon, it's very much appreciated.

Yeah I saw lots of people with Sabiki Rigs in Qufim after the patch, but when I tried myself I was unconvinced to say the least. For every ~* DOUBLE MITHRIL SWORDS!! *~ you get, there's a mountain of stuff that can't be sold above 100-200gil in your inventory.

Maybe, actually. I did happen to notice I was catching a lot of mythril swords earlier this week at 100% moon on Lightsday. Just something that caught my eye. Think I hauled in maybe 60k that particular hour.

Yeah, if I remember correctly I was often looking at around 30 to 60k/hr on the high end fishing sole in qufim for the most part (depending on luck and how aggressively I was spamming my /fish macro). 40k-ish was about the average I think. I’d be interested to see some real gil per hour results with a rig today (and making sure to move around every 20 minutes or so to avoid dry-ups.. I’m still not 100% sure whether the mechanism is time-based, catch #-based, or some kinda mashup of both).

40k an hour average for black soles seems similar to mine.

I have tracked the last 9-10 sessions fishing with a rogue rig.

I have exact numbers at home but I can tell you my low sessions for 1 hour was 70k and my high was 103k. I have not had an hour session under 70 with rogue rig. This includes travel time and about 40 slots open at the start.
