I can't speak for everyone. It obviously depends on whether you are a motivated seller. A group selling a KC is probably more interested in liquidating it for the gil then a crafter.
Not to mention, crafting has a cost that goes into the price. If you make a 300k synth, and the HQ chance is 5%... It's fairly simple to determine what the minimum you should sell an item for, at least. Time invested, like doing OWNMs, doesn't have a quantifiable cost.
I get the comparison, but it's not as neat as people would like to believe.
Again.. I think you, as a seller, gets to determine what cost you're willing to accept and how long you're willing to wait to get that price.. and what the relation is between those, and when one of them changes.
That's just entirely independent of the buyer's same decisions that go into a transaction. It's basically the basics of the economic system we have. When we're talking about these super expensive items though, the pool of prospective buyers is finite... so just writing off someone that is willing to pay more than 99% of people in the game for an item? It's a negotiation.
I'd give more validity to half of these offers/conversations if I didn't feel they were entirely made up to undermine the prices of these items because certain people know they'll only ever be in the position of buying said item, never selling them. (I have confirmation that this is being done by some.) I don't take offense to the offers if they're legit, and I don't wanna step on people's toes who genuinely think the offer their making is valid. I'm also not dumb and can tell the difference between the two.
I don't mean to shit on Camper's offer either, or ruin his chances of getting a cheaper one somewhere out there. I do feel like I have a vested offer in the price of this item tho, so I will defend it with arguments that I deem to be valid. To compare a similar situation where Im in the opposite scenario, I've been waiting for Jemima to lower the price of their Cap -1, or even answer one of my offers. They haven't. Should I be all up in arms that they're not taking what I deem to be a legit offer? Maybe. Does it matter? No.
You think people that could make an offer of 30M+ gil could never be in a position of finding 3 BLM and a RDM level 60+ to kill a mob in TC every 12 hours? There are people right now that are part of groups trying to sell a KC that are only part of that group because they literally typed "/" in an LS chat, and then showed up 15 minutes later for a 7 minute fight, right?
Like I said, for a cursed cap -1.. It depends if your offer involves the crafting literally losing gil? Like there is an established floor for crafted items, because gil was spent to create them. No one is in crafting to lose gil. Having the only item for sale of a rare item, and not needing any gil, makes it a tough case to take less than you've decided it's worth. A KC? At least one member of the group that is part of a KC sale has went to like one kill in months.. and it dropped. How much gil would he like for his 15 minutes of time, and incredible luck?
They just aren't that similar to me, and I don't think saying anyone trying to "low-ball" an offer of 35-40M gil for an item you want 60M for isn't in a position to ever sell one. If they aren't in a position to sell one, it's out of sheer laziness.
Meh. Fun conversation.
Good luck to Camper, but his offer of a full relic of currency was never really intended for a group like RFK. No group is going to sell it for a full relic of currency, and then split that currency up and resell it. He's obviously hoping to find someone that has one for personal use, that might decide they want a relic.
edit: I don't have a vested interest either way. I just think it's a fun conversation. It wasn't a personal attack on Locke. Like I said, I think the seller should seek to maximize their profit every opportunity they get until they, and only they, decide that the time spent doing so isn't worth it.
renaming this thread is fucking hilarious. <3 camper
