They are both good. If I had one at 75, I would most likely have the other since they share a fair amount of gear.

As many have said, it really is personal preference. Leveling WAR, people will want your WAR/NIN to be main tank. Many DRKs abuse Souleater and make the job seem like a headache for most healers. I really loved the aspect of the mage/melee of DRK since I love BLM and still love it to this day. WAR is crazy good as well but I don't have tons of experience on it. I'm sure all will agree that you can't go wrong with either.

Serious question (for once), since we're on the topic of WAR..

If I buy some dope ass gear, can you dual wield axes and be competitive while leveling? GAXE is boring as hell.

A lot of axes are pretty bad for a whole lot of levels. No Rampage til post KRT as well. Meanwhile Shield Break and Sturmwind alone are so good(and GS/Scythe so bad) that people use them on DRK til 50. You do the math on that one. Be a stabby boy from like 25-30+ if you hate BestAxe so much. Gusgen flies, Jungle pugils, zitah, CN, KRT, WW, MtZ etc...

The problem is that, the best time to use Axe, is also the best time to use Polearm. You just got dualwield II and Rampage, but you also just got Penta thrust and are fighting bats, then colibri, then flies/crawlers. All of which(Except crawlers) take 25% more damage from piercing.

Honestly, it doesn't make much difference if you're just leveling up. If you're having fun dual axing then your perception of time will go by faster, and you'll probably stick around for more hours, ultimately getting you more levels anyway.

I, admittedly, forgot about polearm. That's fine too. I just find GAXE boring.

yes

in era juggernaut/ridill was one of the best DD setups period as well, if you chose to play it past leveling.
