Some "leaders" have the argument that "if you don't ride, you'll be ridden".

Which is fair enough, considering the greed among the masses.

Some "leaders" express their passion for success and performance in overtoned ways.

Which can be a good thing, so long as it's constructive.

When it comes to "leadership", either you got it or you don't. It's not really something that can be taught. We can teach someone how to talk, perform, organize, sustain, reflect, and how to teach others, but what we can't teach someone, is how to connect. Typically this falls back to nepotism, where they feel a connection with who is likeminded and such. Being disciplined enough to respect difference, and reach out to those who feel the most distant in an attempt to connect, is a rare gift. How many times do you notice that "differences bind us". It's much more comfortable to only coordinate with the ones that agree with you. Then it becomes your unsaid identity, what you feel accomplished in, and therefore you go with it. To push anyone outside of their comfort zone, well.... In that case, they would have to treat this game like a job themselves, which is contradictory to them not trying to treat this game like a job.

But eh, what do I know? I'm just a carrot ^^

As far as MMO’s go anyone can become a leader the vast majority is just too lazy to start anything up for themselves if there are always helpless people in the game there will always be someone out there to guide their lazy bum

"Anyone can become a leader". That's true in the fact you can own a linkshell. Remaining a leader with a successful linkshell especially in endgame is a whole other story.

To add onto this: it takes A LOT of work to actually run an LS and you absolutely need a strong constitution. It's damn near a full time job especially in the beginning stages. If you're not completely plugged in with your entire surroundings things can turn to shit very quickly. You need to recognize and respect everyone's ideal goals in the game and over time reach them for everyone. In the mean time understanding that you aren't the focus, your members are.

Members of Draconic Ballad, hear me! For too long have we slaved and suffered under the tyrant Tokitaki! For too long have we seen our precious loot be stolen by this tryant! For too long have we conformed to his will!

Enough is enough! Today we end Tokitaki's tyranny! Today we take back our shell!

Will you follow me into battle one last time?! Tokitaki is not the all mighty powerful leader that we believed him to be! He is a feeble man whom, if we stand together, we can easily overthrow!

Are you with me my brothers and sisters?!

::waits for replies::

For this, the ultimate punishment....
you must eat... 80 Pipin' Hot Popoto's in a row!!! :O
and you must serve me a Cheese Sandwich +1 on a silver platter.
No one defies me and gets away with it!

Good leaders elevate those around them and make the group better.
