Has anyone tried a "thfburn" setup? RDM, BRD, 4xTHF/NIN. Seems like the highest evasion job in the game with lower dps, high spike damage, several enmity control abilities, and access to shadows would be able to bounce hate around and, as a team, produce constant spike damage with a SATA rotation. I imagine a group of decent to good thieves being able to wreck shit consistently.

Edit: ... or even BRD/WHM, 5xTHF/NIN if they knew what they were doing...

Naw man, if you're gonna do that, you do 4x thf/nin a smn/whm and a rdm/whatever.

Hastega + Enthunder on 4x dual wielding quick attacks. You cheese the fuck out of enthunder and roll like 10-15kxp per hour, unless you get lamias.

Inviting a random THF you don't know to a party involves more dice rolling than playing COR. Is his gear good? Does he actually understand how to play his job properly? Do all the other melee DD understand how to play with a THF? Is there another melee DD that will open for the THF once per minute? Will the tank be able to hold hate off of the ranged DD consistently? Is there a first voker that won't drain the healer's MP? Answering no to two or more of these questions will generally result in higher xp/h just 5 manning the mobs. Which is a real shame, because a good THF with a good group makes for very smooth grinding: everything just falls into a very predictable rhythm, which then greatly increases efficiency.

THFburn is a lot of fun, though you’ll probably wanna stick with friends/LS/etc. so people don’t rage-quit when you TA Shark Bite on them at the start of the fight and then laugh as their shadows get ripped off

But yeah, with the right camp and haste+rolling thunder (and even BRD or COR buffs if anyone happens to bring outside heals) you can tear through mobs and get 10-15k/hr pretty readily

Thanks everyone for the input. Great conversation and excellent points. I agree that a THF requires more "work" and a rhythm that naturally takes place if everyone knows their job (and other jobs).

THF burn parties sound like fun. I do remember being in a party with NIN (me), THF x3, RDM (post 41), RNG and we destroyed the mobs.

Have fun everyone

PS: I am going to try to enjoy the journey, solo sometimes with THF with TH2 and craft in the field whenever I get crystals. This just ... feels better ^,^/

I know a guy (Cataclysm, damn good friend) that soloed thf to 75 as his 1st job, ended up with over 2,000 beastmen seal and like 400 kindred seals, + bumped his Leather to over 60 in the process. Covered all his startup gil/gear with treasure hunter. It was a great accomplishment. Amazing solo progress in his 1st 3 months while settling into the server. I know another guy that did thf as his 1st job (Mostkilled, another damn good friend) got most of his exp solo as thf/war into like 56 or so, came out with. Tons of beastmen seals also and farmed like 2-3mil to bridge his gear into endgame while he was at it. He did that in about 2 months. So there's definitely alot to gain from soloing your exp on thf. May feel slower but you're gaining more than just exp while you're at it ^^.

Mostkilled - great guy and partied with him a few times.

Excellent points! Thanks Carrot. I encourage people to solo. I know that this will pay in the long term with seals, drops, crafting, etc... it's doing 3 tasks at the same zone with no travel time, no waiting for party members, and I can do this even in short bursts. Lots of benefits.

I'll get my Peacock Charm / PA one day :)

Moi?

It's not difficult. Depending on how fast the mob is dying, disengage and pickup another mob. Learn the layout and remember the initial 5 minute timer on the 1st pulled mob to avoid links coming back to camp. Remember spawn locations. Grab a T to keep the chain alive while waiting for IT spawns. Know your surroundings: what aggros, links, etc.

Am I missing anything?

just dualbox rdm and thf, solo your thf to cap, make money doing it that way.

you only level the class to make money anyways so what's it matter, all the cool places to farm are doubtlessly overpopulated

i and a friend did at mid level, it was garbage and a ton of effort.

basically everyone was reasonably geared for 45? i think it was, either way it wasn't at THF power spike levels and it was doing worse than the average pt.

if you do it at 15-30 as /mnk and try to 100-0 mobs once a minute or 34-40 maybe it will work well?
