Ok so before I begin, let me just start off by saying these thoughts are my own. I am sure many have their own opinions, but I am speaking only of myself and no one else. That aside this is directed towards Nasomi as well as other players questioning the QA streaming event going on.
But before I delve into that, I want to stress that I do support Nasomi in what he does. Looking at it from a standpoint of what he runs, the constant dollars spent in maintaining the server, as well as doing the best he can to add content and fix bugs, he is a one man show and is trying his best to keep the server clean and orderly. I think he's an awesome human being who is doing what he can. But while that was going on, many people voiced concerns. And while I applaud TS for taking down the mob used for stress testing, and they honestly deserve it after how stupid it stayed alive, I felt it mainly showcased them. It's not their fault. They got the claim and they were well geared. But my concern is that while this was going on, people watching died, lost exp, or just sat there just to see this go down before warping.
There was nothing for us to do, other than to just watch this stress test--and in some cases, losing exp. And I defended what Nas did however and think it's logical in doing these things. But this doesn't fix the problems we have in the game content wise. Several bugs exists in CoP, elemental WS are broken and do not read correctly to that of the ws in era, account hacks--prolly third party tools though, but with the ddos, you never know. Zone crashes, Alliance glitches, WS effects of stun and bind not of era FFXI WS effects, such as Tachi Hobakku and shadowbind.
It's not that I am ungrateful. Look at what these men, and Deadwing while assisting Nas, have done to help build the server to run as close to era FFXI as possible. I feel he's doing a good job with what he can. But he could do more--and he has to. Our server population at one point was growing by this time last year. Now, I am seeing a decline with us at times barely reaching 1k people online.
It could be the bad publicity of people posting about the state of the server may have left a sour taste in prospective players mouth. Maybe it’s the DDOS attacks. Or maybe Nas threatening to ban someone for showing a SS of Deft using Organizer--which while I think is unfair for him to use Organizer, I don't think he should be banned in the future for this coming out, but that's me. There are problems going on. Nas is one person and I don't expect him to do the things mentioned above all in one day, especially since he's going to roll out more ToAU areas. But I do think rather than having us walk all that way to watch a fight to make it more interactive for those there in an easier place to access. I also think he could have also utilized the PvP area he made to hold some of these events too. IMO it's a more controlled area to prevent exp loss. But look, the guy is a programmer/engineer not an event planner. I didn't shout saying you're a horrible human being for not giving us something. It was a question, and that's it. I don't like that it was just sit and watch. He’s sending sending server messages to stop and come over for this, just to watch a group kill it and be bomb tossed. That doesn't make me ungrateful for what he did though.
But rather than focus on stress testing on a declining server, he should work on some other points of interest—the alliance bugs, zone crashes from people exploiting bugs, ws adjustments, and content stability. This isn't bashing him, and rather I find this constructive. I am not putting down any LS either, or attacking people. It is just my take. At times I can upset with things going on in the server ranging from Nana's being removed, or players being jailed for a false positive until Nas actually investigated and freed him for being innocent. Sometimes I wonder if I should go to Eden. But at the end of the day I am here. I have made too many friends and invested a lot of time for the switch. I am happy in the server. But while you are happy, it doesn't mean you're happy with everything and this is what this post is about. I didn't need to post this, but I thought I should and I hope the constructive comments are fruitful more than anything.
