So I'm up to 29 fishing skill, and I've never lost a fish except due to "you lost your catch due to your lack of skill". Is the mini-game dumbed down on Nasomi relative to original FFXI? Except for monsters, every single fish is exactly 8 white-arrow pulls to land the fish.

I seem to recall on original FFXI that the original game had variability between the fish... and that the tough fish were TOUGH to land. Or am I remembering incorrectly? Or perhaps I haven't gotten to the tough fish yet, at skill 29?

Any thoughts?

your recollection is correct and your description of the nas fishing situation is accurate. the minigame here is retarded simple. this is another one of those low priority things. nas has written that he would like to go back to the old school fishing game (what would have been version 2 of ffxi fishing that introduced left/right control) that didn't show arrows and required you to look at the angle of the fishing rod. we'll see when that happens.

currently, the only thing "interesting" about the arrows is that you are more likely to get a skillup on a fish that gives a lot of gold arrows. white arrows are less likely to confer a skillup on catch

Ugh. So fishing is now basically an unchallenging way to get free gil in exchange for time spent staring at the screen. That is extremely disappointing.

yeah. i can fish while i grade my students' speeches (recorded videos) or watch netflix. the only challenge is not letting a fish go and glitching the game. i sometimes think that's the reason why that glitch is still around.

How can you glitch the game whilst fishing?

If you cancel while you're fighting a fish, you lose most of your controls and have to reboot.

Not unlike all the other ways to make gil!

i'd be shocked if it was fixed, but if you were to let a legit fish bite timeout you also glitched. for someone who sometimes took an extra 10 seconds of afk after casting a line, that turned fishing into a pain. before the glitch, i'd only lose that fish and one bait.

Lol good point, I actually thought about that after my post. Farming fast Easy mobs is definitely a low-skill time sink as well, much like Nasomi fishing.

if your bored enough to spend your life fishing you deserve to have pointless gil on a fake server for days.
