Hey all.

I've noticed that in particular areas, there are people who tend to lag while others don't lag at all. Some examples include:

Any HNM area when there's 100+ people (Dragon's Aery is the worst culprit)
Dynamis-Bubu: certain pulls like mandys or crows can get laggy

I've tried to adjust in-game settings (animation rate, decreasing character model count, etc.), but nothing seems to work. My computer is fairly fast with a newish video card, so I don't think computer performance is an issue.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Thank you!

-Ash

Lag is best described as a latency issue, there is many many many reasons for it, ranging from which routes your isp sends it's traffic all the way down to the quality of wire in your ethernet port. It's an extremely broad spectrum to troubleshoot, and is further compounded if you connect wirelessly to your router. People actually get paid in the 100s of k's per year to diagnose and troubleshoot these issures because of their complexity. There's only so much you can try on your own, first step would be to list your isp, connection speed and if your network environment is wired or wireless. If you choose that is, good luck ^^

a large variable is your physical proximity to northern pennsylvania, where nasomi is located. more distance means longer wires for the data to traverse, which multiplies all of the issues that the carrot mentioned above.

Pretty sure it's just how close you live to Nasomi. I dunno.

There is more factors than just the connection speed and all that goes along with it. The server CPUs can't process everything that is happening at once and there has to be some type of prioritization taking place for server calculations. That's why there is virtually no lag in those zones until people start moving around or casting spells even if there is 100+ people.

It's definitely a complex problem with a ton of variables and I won't really claim to have much more knowledge on it than what I stated above. Either way it sucks that there has been no visible progress on a fix though.

I live in the same state as nasomi and at some of the Fafnir camps I'll get 5+ minutes worth of lag. Isn't it also based on what version of the client you're running?

some ppl are using the client released at the end of 2018/start of 2019 which allowed a lot of ppl to play with very little lag in heavily congested areas, for reasons i forget it was recalled (crashes?) and another client was released within a couple days but the people who didnt see issues with the client im sure kept it since nas didnt force ppl to use the new client. likely missing a lot of information/details but im sure that's the gist of it
