I don't quite understand what the number of behemoths killed has to do with artificially filling the AH history with purchases from yourself.

It's within the rules, so whatever, but if you want to defend the practice that others dislike, going "well we've killed a lot in the past week and a half" isn't doing so, it's stating a tangentially related fact.

Regardless, any person who can control supply should take advantage of the fact. It's a risk, much like any gamble in the stock market. No one's telling anyone they need to buy at a certain price.
