hello,

i need some advice

im new to this game and i have limited experience with mmorpgs. basically i love final fantasy and i recently dropped XIV to try this out, the art style alone is much more appealing than XIVs.
just it seems to me XI is very demanding, i've been soloing a THF to level 17 now and im having great altho slow fun, but i have worries uhun

after watching some youtube vids on the matter and reading comments about how difficult it is to find players to complete certain mandatory tasks (sub job unlock seems to be one) and ofc pretty much all end-game? does nasomi at some point require scheduling? how casual can i be with this? do i need to master all crafts etc etc?

basically, i have time to put in, but im not a hardcore gamer, i have almost no experience with end-game mmorpgs. should i be looking elsewhere? i've seen there are more casual friendly servers but these do seem a bit off putting due to low pop and who knows how long these smaller ones stick around. retail offer "trusts" but i have yet to see literally anyone recommending XI retail

what i love so far about nasomi is that the journey is grindy, hard but great fun, end-game seems so far off im currently just playing not worrying about it, but i have serious concerns about how stuck i may get at certain points in the progression.

please help this lost soul out!

First thing you probably want ot do is find a good social linkshell to join who will have higher level players to help you with things you cannot solo, like your sj, genkais, AF, things like this. You will be able to solo them eventually but your first job to 75 will require help. Linkshell can also help with forming exp parties, which are much more fun than soloing but if you like to solo you can still do that. End game is usually scheduled out ya, but its with linkshells and youll just have to find a shell that you can attend things and have fun. There are lots of end game shells doing many different things so it wont be to hard to find one for your schedule. That is also a ways off. Id focus on just playing and having fun and socializing. A huge part of the nostalgia people have with this game is the socialization with people.

I am not a hardcore gamer either so I completely understand. Don't be afraid to talk to people and be open about how you're new and lost :) Some people don't like chitchat but others are completely open to it such as myself, so you need to continue to reach out and find the friendly players. Friendlier players also tend to be in less of a rush and can enjoy the small things with you. If I encountered you I would gladly help with anything you need!

This game will make you work for what you get. You can be casual and pretty successful just need to be sociable with the community. Reputation will carry you a long way towards success. Most endgame groups run a scheduled event calendar. I personally do not, and my linkshell does not, but we're a rare and different breed of endgame shell. You can do just about anything in the game with a party of 6, and if you can network effectively, teaming up with other groups for larger fights can get the job done without selling your soul. This game can be played any way you want to play it. You don't have to master any crafting unless that's something you want to do. All you'll really need is level 75 on a job you enjoy playing, a positive attitude and to be sociable. With those 3 tools in your toolbelt you'll do fine. Being fair, honest, and having integrity goes a long ways also. Enjoy^^

To be able to enjoy this game, you'll need to join parties and play with other players. Player interaction is one of the bigger reasons to play FFXI on nasomi. You can't get very far without joining exp parties and getting help from other players. Because players have to rely on each other more, players are usually pretty helpful here. Joining a decent social linkshell would definitely make things easier. Even if you don't have a linkshell, if you need something like the subjob items, you can probably get help by shouting or even by asking random people. Either way, you'll need to play with other players in order to get the full experience here.

Thank you so much for the replies!

I have decided to stick to it (i mean its so fun atm i cant keep my hands off of it anyway).
Perhaps this is off-topic or even a bit sensitive for some, i dont know. But i have gotten recommendations for Eden, which to my understanding seems to be growing faster than Nasomi atm, and it seems that the general consensus is that Eden does have a more robust roadmap for the future (larger team yeah, which literally only has strenghts). I don't want to swap, ive been sweating alot getting my THF to 18 but considering what i've just mentioned its a confusing situation.

Are the differences between these two servers really that important? Will Nasomi at some point lag behind in fixes and updates? And the most important question, whats really the truth here about the apparent "dropoff" from nasomi to eden? I mean if the latter is the case im better off swapping now rather than later

I've had a great experience so far on Nasomi, just thinking ahead here

I've played a lot on both servers and they each have pros and cons. I sent you a detailed PM about it; would rather not get into in public on the forums.

Both are ran by private parties and you're connecting to them directly, I choose nasomi because some of edens admins don't exactly have squeaky clean moral histories *shrugs* up to you tho, good luck^^
