I'm happy on my island. I've done maybe 2 dynamis since the entry and such was finalized, never expd in dynamis, no relics, always broke and out of gil, most of what I do is 2 box soloed, or with 1 or 2 other ppl that may also be 2 boxd. I stay lowkey and within my circles. I haven't ran out of things to do in 5.5 years, and have fun just about everytime I login. I chat, and teach ppl things, and do stuff for ppl. I don't share the same epeen as others, my epeen is more about how many people I've helped and mentored over the years. I enjoy how I play, and I love the friends I play with. Relics and merits are nice, if that's your thing hey go for it. I prefer challenging myself. If I were to snatch up all the BiS I could get my hands on, I would just faceroll everything, would be no point in continuing like that. I'm still around because I haven't sold myself into burning myself out.... Well I'm a little burnt out of progressing folks these days but after 200+ full clears, I guess it's expected I'd need time away from that scene. The point is the game can be anything you want it to be. I wouldn't say nasomi didn't foresee the dyna burns being what they are. Really though, once you put dyna on farm, you can set a clock by scheduling relics. The system here just expedites that at a much more rapid rate. As far as merits in dynamis go, sure you get 130k in 2 hours, but you waiting 4-6 hours to get in to get those merits (unless you're a dick that skips) which means you don't have anything better to do for 6-8 hours a day xcept wait in the dyna-line.... *shrugs* can spend the same ammount of time and get more merits without the boring wait, but eh, to each their own. The kicker is the currency drops, which even if u knock out 700 pieces in a 2hr burn you're getting like 2mil tops to split across 6 ppl.... You can do better than that outside of dynamis. I don't really see much of a problem honestly, it all balances out as it is. I think if I could peg a single point of player habit that could be a problem, it'd be npc gil. This is kinda ffxi tho, so npc gil is always going to be a thing, and inflation is always going to creep itself up and down. The micro-economy in ffxi was a flawed system from the instant the developers created it, nothing going to miraculously happen to fix that, just have to adapt, and play the game you want to play, and never forfeit yourself into playing the game others want you to play. Good luck^^
