I’ve just about perfected the answer to this question.
Practice makes perfect.
Agreed
In all seriousness, what I *did* do was level an alt at the same time, and make a pair of mostly-useful jobs (BRD and BLM) as my first run to 75. This makes things sooooo much easier to do what you want later. BRD is silly cheap, BLM not as much but still doable. I had a bunch of help from friends to help with Limit Breaks and junk, so if I was going it alone I might instead do something like RDM + SAM or WAR first or something since they're both also relatively fast to 75 and that duo can take on all kinds of junk in the game (maybe not as much as RDM + THF, but you can level RDM and SAM to 75 two or three times in the time it would take to level THF to 75 once unless you have a lot of people to party with), though SAM is probably one of the pricier jobs in the game to be really well-geared all the way to 75.
I'd probably also resist the urge to start in Windurst yet again... I'll always love the city, mission lines, associated jobs, atmosphere, etc., but the fact of the matter is that it's just not as populous and you have a near-zero chance of joining a pick-up group for missions/quests/etc. from shouts in town as you would in either of the other nations.
If I had the spare time, I'd level fishing to 96 on whichever character I wasn't also leveling THF on. I currently tend to earn most of my money via currency sales from lowman dyna runs, but only really because I have a bunch of friends to go with. If I were starting fresh, being able to both fish and farm/camp/etc. at the same time is a potent way to earn easy money quickly.
Lastly, try and make more friends along the way. I admittedly have tended to stick with the same small group of people for most of the stuff I've done, but everyone eventually gets burned out, stops playing for a while/takes breaks, etc. and it can get a bit lonely at times, even when you're staying active in an endgame LS. Stay active in a social LS, help out your fellow noobs along the way, choose not to go out of your way to be a jerk, etc.
