I might get flamed here but what is the opinion on paying others for help?

I know there are some that enjoy helping others but sometimes its difficult to find someone who is available when your'e online. I'm stubborn american capitalist, so naturally I wanna throw some money at this.
Besides the obvious opportunities for being scammed, what other reservations are there?
and what would be a good price point? per mission?

Paying for items you just don't want to do the leg work for has been a staple of ffxi since the dawn of retail. Buying a group to do a swift belt run is no different than if swift belts were rare and you were buying off the AH.

It's just what you want to spend your time on versus what you don't.

My only gripe would be if they actively try to prevent you from going sfter certain stuff. For example delaying to kill a force pop nm so that the ??? Takes forever for you to use.

There are plenty of folks around here that do merc work, usually for items that are generally a pain to get solo but not hard for a dedicated small group that is intimately familiar with farming them efficiently. Most people don't directly frown on the idea, other than maybe rolling their eyes a bit at someone that everyone knows just 'bought' their way into hard-to-get good gear (e.g.: if you've never been in an EGLS and have full ground king gear, etc.). But hey, if you've got the money and people willing to do it for what you're spending, go for it!


Quests/missions aren't often "merc'd" as far as I'm aware, but it's definitely been done. I've seen groups offer to 'carry' folks from zero to DM earring (relatively easy) / zero to CoP ring (f#*$ing cancerous, but whatever sinks your submarine). It's been a while since I've seen folks offering them up, but if there's a market demand for it, there's bound to be buyers/sellers.
