Just started a few weeks ago and I obviously can't do the nicer loot BCNM's at higher levels.

I tried trading a Star Orb Lv 40 cap for both Royal Jelly and Undying Promise. Both ended up doing nothing. Kind of bummed right now as I spent a lot of time running around with no Airship access, and what looks to be a dead orb.

Anyone else have or had that problem?

Some of them do work, but many of them don't. That's why the big dragon NMs exist in all of the zones, as replacements for BCNMs that don't work.

Sadly I don't think there is a comprehensive list of which ones work, but your orbs aren't useless, there are 40s that work. I believe Petrifying Pair is the most popular one that people do.

I've seen the big dragons that you mentioned, but what exactly are they for?

For your orb Under Observation should work here, or at least it used to. So I wouldn't toss it until you try.

I was told these below work and do not work, however it needs conformation. I'll add comments to those who test them on nasomi and find out they do indeed work. If it is in bold and says Works on Nasomi it does indeed work. The other comments are speculation from the above BCNM40 post that a person linked to. I'll update them as people add them.

so is my understanding of OWNM's correct? If a BCNM is not working there will be a dragon NM in that zone w/ the same loot table?

Pretty much. Your whole party syncs down to the correct level for the BCNM. Unfortunately they all have the same AI and moveset so it takes a lot of the fun out of it, but at least it's a way to get the items for now. If you are after ENM drops however, only one works and there are no way to get drops from the others atm.
